  • Easy shots. Dunks, layups, open 3's.

Main problem w/ this Raps team by far is their offence. 1 on 1 pretty much every possession. Dumb shot selection. You have Lowry taking long pull up 3's and fadeways in crucial situation, and then you have DeRozan taking unnecessary turnaround shots and pull up j's. Then you have Patterson passing up on open 3's. I can go on and on. It's tough to watch.

Raptors need to find a way to create EASY shots. Dunks, layups, open 3's. Their offence right now is completely UNWATCHABLE.

Not enough shooters on the team to create spacing for that.

I don't know, I see plenty kickouts, swings, even dump-offs where the shot is just being missed.

Jack Armstrong refused to predict how this team would fare ... his reluctance based specifically on whether it can score enough. After a 5-0 start, I was thinking they're all right, ... but maybe other teams are adjusting or our shooters are struggling ...?

I'd go with struggle. Ross, Patterson and Carroll have gotten open looks that they just missed.

And Lowry needs to hit his 3s, pullup or not.

You need ball movement and high IQ players. When a player is cold it's up to the player to recognize that and adjust their games. Lowry and DD keep firing away. That's the "he's my guy" attitude that Casey instills on the team.

2Pat and Ross have been useless, and I think an adjustment needs to be made so that they are more mentally sound. I don't have any hope for Ross, but perhaps starting 2Pat may actually be a smart move for him. Scola will be sound no matter if he starts or comes off the bench.. and perhaps the bench needs a bit of maturity. For Ross, maybe give JJ or even Bruno some of his minutes.. maybe that could turn him around (might make it worse though).

As for dunks/layups... well that's primarily Biyombo who's just awful on offense. He's actually worse than Reggie Evans on offense. If Bebe wasn't made of glass, I'd want him to get Bismack's minutes for a game or two.

On the bright side, JV is still putting up efficient numbers but his awareness is still not crisp. Hard to get him the ball at times too as opponents can defend the entry pass into him pretty well now a days. You either get him out of his comfort zone in the block or make it difficult for the entry pass to make it in.

Although nothing's really changed since last year. Last year the offense was brutal too. The talent is there. The reason the offense isn't as fluid as it should be is on Casey. And we knew that was going to happen. he spent his entire training camp on defense.

I actually think the ball movement has been a lot better this year but the big problem is their execution and mentality. Whenever they are facing pressure or their shots are not falling the main guys (Demar and Lowry) revert back to iso ball because I don't they trust their teammates. Late in the 4th quarter of the OKC and Orlando game almost every play was a demar iso where he had to rely on making a tough shot or getting fouled.

This type of play is just not sustainable and we are going to be embarrassed in the playoffs again when fouls aren't called as often and coaches can adjust to player styles after seeing them more often.

These days, layups and dunks are proving to be just as difficult is any other shot

I don't know if it makes sense but there's too much pressure on our 3 pt shooters to make their shots. Demarre Carroll in starting line up and Ross and Patterson on bench.

Our team is in a weird situation. Not many teams (if any) can boast having 4 guys who can shoot 37%+ from 3. Our problem (like what you're saying Mixx) is that there's too much pressure on them. Those 4 guys are the only guys who actually attempt 3s for the team. No balance there.

But OP, our best finishers consistently get the least looks on a nightly basis. JJ and JV combined for what.. 3 attempts in the second half? There's your problem.

I see guys(Lowry and DeRozan specially) take HIGHLY contested/tough shots every game. It gets worse in the 4th because those two just play 1 on 1.

Does anyone remember Steve Kerr's exact quote about the Raptors last year? i think he said something like: "much of what they do reverses to 1 on 1 play"

                        Steve Kerr nailed it.

We like to go for the contested mid-range too much.

We are better at moving the ball, we're actually 5th in passes made.

Problem is, we're not effective at moving the ball for a good shot, it shows as we're 3rd last (37.4) in Potential Assists per Game. That is, passes that would have been assists had a shot been made. Middle of the table in that stat is 43 (OKC), at the top 57.1 (GSW).

We don't use our passing to create easy looks, it's ineffective ball movement.

Yup three pointless passes outside to allow the defense to setup then drive in and pray for a whistle
