  • Christian Wood - PF

Sixers just released PF Christian Wood. He went undrafted, though some thought he had mid-late lottery talent.

He is very mobile, has great length, but what is most intriguing is his ability to stretch the floor. I know the Raps already have a lot of projects (Bruno, Powell, Wright, Bebe,...) and no roster spots right now, but Wood could be an interesting guy to take a look at in the future. He is still pretty raw, though.

released from the 76ers is enough for me. he is also a skeleton that has somehow been covered in human flesh. he has to weigh under 200 pounds.

good luck to him in the future. i would be adding as much meaningful weight as possible if i were wood.

I've been high as hell on this guy.

I take it as a pretty bad sign if the Sixers gave up on him. If he was exhibiting anything close to that 'late lottery talent' then he'd still be on their roster.

I was high on his talent in the draft. He's got issues though. Maybe just try to get him on our D-League roster, even if we're talking next season.

I dunno. Like that classic Seinfeld episode when George finds great success by doing everything opposite of his natural loser instinct, lol, using the 6ers front office as a measuring stick for talent evaluation might not be the best idea. With Bryan Colangelo's dad in there now, the stated objective was to reduce the number of young players and try to bring in some character vets and get back to competetiveness. Wood might have been caught in the numbers game and also has some alleged character issues, so it wouldn't be hard to see why they released him, especially with Noel, Okafor and possibly Embid coming back and even Saric maybe coming over.

Wood's game stats (*small sample alert*) are actually not that bad (18.8 PER, .133 WS/48), especially playing for an abomination of a team like Philly, even in garbage time. We'd be putting Bennett or Bruno in the HoF for half that production, around here. lol.

Might be a good opportunity for a 15th man next season or at least to give a shot to the 905ers if nobody picks him up. However we may be picking up two kids in the draft already (assuming nobody gets traded).

I liked Wood in the draft last year. No room for him now but could be cheap depth with upside in the off-season.

hehehe, there's something I never thought I'd read.

                      maybe he was too good?

Philly cuts everyone though. They cut Wroten after he'd been one of their best players for a couple of years....and I know that's not saying much, but still...

And yeah, Wroten benefited from high usage on a shit team to bump his numbers up, but he tore his ACL playing for them, and they cut him before he was able to get back to 100%. That's the kind of organization Philly is right now. Kid tore his ACL Jan 23 2015, and was waived by December 24th 2015.

Still can't believe Wroten hasn't been picked up elsewhere.. makes you wonder if his knee ever recovered fully?

EDIT: Apparently he's finalizing a deal with the Knicks as we speak .. don't know if they're better or worse that the 6ers at talent evaluation. Lol

I believe I read that he just signed with NY a couple days ago.

Makes you wonder if they cared to give him good medical advice and watch his rehab properly. ACL tears aren't the career-enders they used to be, but it takes most guys well over a year to fully recover, often more like 18-24 months to feel how you did pre-injury.

They gave this kid less than a year...and waived him to sign a rental in a doomed season. If their goal is to tank, a guy playing not 100% can only help that. And if their goal is to help their franchise's reputation among players/prospects, cutting young guys on their contract year after a knee injury is a sure way to avoid that.
