  • Is BC The Right GM At The Wrong Time For Toronto?

Hi guys I was just wondering If BC and Toronto would Have been more successful if he was In the front office 6 years ago. Before I get ripped 10,000 new ones I just want to say 1)Yes I know that he wasn't the same as he is now (not In the league front office) or any arguments like that. I'm Just saying that for all of BC faults no one can deny that he always tried to surround our star with good pieces. I just want to know if you think it would have been more of a success with an actual Superstar like Vince and not Ru-Paul. Especially when Vince complained for a lack of supporting cast in his latter years. Just wondering. Thank you in advance for responding.
What if... Blazers had drafted both Drexler, Jordan?

From 1992 Beginner's Guide to the NBA Finals, The Oregonian's special section. Published 6/3/1992.

Michael Jordan was the #3 pick in the 1984 draft, after Portland selected Sam Bowie second.

I think BC occasionally displays a great instinct for making deals that other GM's would fail to see and would not pull off... At the same time, his two great mistakes are Bargnani, and his handling of the Bosh situation. With Andrea, I do not think he has ever publicly admitted to be willing to move Barney if it would genulinely improve the team... With Bosh, he failed to recognize that he could have gotten a better return if he moved CB4 while under contract, and his statements since Bosh left have been degrading to the organization...

Either way, it is time for us to move on. Raptors fans need to recognize that Brian Colangelo is not the only person capable of running this organization, and MLSE needs to make an exhaustive search, and replace Brian with a competent NBA executive.

(And F-CK YOU all who give me Shit for supporting a management change without specifying a replacement....)

Mlse will not replace bc at least not at this time. And put simply they will do no such thing as an exhaustive search - it is just not in their blood.

Ah yes, speculation of how life could have been and be if only?

Regarding: Is BC the right GM at the Wrong Time for Toronto?

Sorry I do not have enough knowledge of what has transpired with the Raptors franchise prior to 09-10 to answer the question.

Wow those were some really compelling arguments, i cant think of any reason to debate with you (sarcasm). First off, you criticize his two biggest mistakes as being Andrea Bargnani and the Bosh situation. In regards to Bosh, hindsight is 20/20 and no one could have predicted that Bosh and his fun boys would conspire to ruin the league. As for Bargnani, according to you "I do not think he has ever publicly admitted to be willing to move Barney if it would genulinely improve the team...". What does this even mean? Does he need to come out and publicly declare that he will trade Bargs, or any player, to make the team better? Can we just not assume as fans that he will make a trade if it benefits the team? People on here for some reason believe he is married to Bargs, but Brian has proved that he is willing to admit his errors and correct them. He wasn't married to O'Niel, Turk or TJ and I have no reason to believe he wouldnt trade Bargs if right trade came along.

Finally I will give you shit, because unless you have a list of replacements that are better, available and would come here then you really have no argument.

+1. BC is the wrong GM for the rebuild. We need our draft picks(BC seems to think draft picks are sweeteners to his "swinging for the fences" deal), flexible deals and contract years(Amir 5 year $34m contract and Andrea 5 year $50m contract by BC, Nuff said) and patience - qualities BC does not seem to have. Consequently, the Andrea and bosh situation further buttress the fact that BC is not the right guy for the rebuild.

Maybe not, but I think it was apparent that Bosh was not interested in continuing his career in Toronto. BC clearly decided that what he could get back in a sign and trade would be sufficient return. I would argue that he could have done better. If he had told Bosh that he wanted his signature on an extension by the trade deadline, and if not he would be looking at shipping his ass out of town at that time.

You are right, I guess I worded that poorly. The point is that it was a mistake to draft a player (Bargs) #1 overall who so poorly complemented the team's best player at that time. I am suggesting that if he had traded Bargnani, he quite possibly would have been able to bring back a wing player who might have better complemented Bosh, and who would have helped increase Bosh's desire to stay in town.

No. Not if pulling the trigger on such a deal would be a public admission that drafting Bargnani was a mistake. (That is the point, BC has been defending that pick for four years... If he admits defeat on that front, that will call much of what else he has done into question. Bosh was not BC's guy, Barney is. As long as we have BC, we are stuck with Bargnani)

People always give BC credit for that series of moves. TJ, JO, Marion, Hedo, Barbosa, ???... Yes, he does try to fix his mistakes. And since he seems to make a mistake every year, our team has the worst turn over in the league. I will give him credit for trying to improve the team. However, I would point out that those are four supposedly elite players that he brought in, who didnt work out, and he should blamed for the error of bringing them in, as much as he should be praised for correcting the mistakes.

Also, BC was one of the main contibutors to Pat Riley's triumphant July, as the O'Neal for Marion swap helped Riley create the cap space to sign James and Bosh. If you are upset about the Heat ruining the league, you have your boy Bryan to thank for that.

Okay. Kevin Pritchard. Mark Warkentien. Just about anybody in San Antonio's front office. Deez Nuts fool. Thanks for wasting my time.

i agree with a lot of the stuff you sadi but one thing you have to remember is that bc is a patient guy (time with suns). mlse are the ones with no pateince which puts bc in a tight spot hich can result in a lot of desperation moves
