Simply, Philly aren't going to be able to afford Lou, so they need to move him. They could also use a PF and the raps have a plethora of them. Here they get Amir who's a solid battle tested guy who will help them in the playoffs and going forward. They could even amnesty Elton Brand this offseason and start Amir. It'd be cheaper for them and i don't believe the drop off in talent would be that much.

Raps get a proven scorer who's essentially a Barbosa clone only better and much younger. He certainly helps the team "hit the ground running" next year.

I was actually thinking of Lou Williams on the Raps the other day. Lou is CLUTCH! If we have problems scoring down the stretch it becomes much easier with Lou in the line up.

82games.com has some clutch stats, and Lou's name is always near the top:

    2011-2012
    2010-2011
    2009-2010

He's a good combo guard to have if we don't qualify Bayless, and Barbosa leaves. I believe Doug Smith mentioned Lou Williams a couple of months back. He's been on the Raps radar for awhile, and with Stefanski on board - it should be easier to get him.

Im assuming that if we made this trade we let Barbosa and Bayless walk?
If this is the case, arent we just trading Amir to replace a player we could just resign anyway?
I know he's younger, but we would be better to keep Amir and resign Bayless or Barbosa.

Although I would not mind Lou coming here, I dont see us trading Amir for him has benificial right now.
If we could make a deal like Barbosa for him(or in a three way trade) then I would definitely be down for it.

Lou Williams is a very good combo guard, and can easily be a much better spark plug than both Bayless and Barbosa, and is an energy player. I don't know much about him defensively, but I know he is a very coach-able guy.

This trade is very beneficial for both teams, Lou Williams will be a combo sixth man guard, and is someone who can score down the stretch and is very reliable, makes good decisions, he's not a black hole either like Barbosa or Bayless.
Amir Johnson would be a grace for the Sixers. It won't be a chemistry problem because he is one of the most coach-able guys in the league, and that allows Thaddeus Young to move down to the small forward and back up Andre Iguodala, which already fixes the sixth man problem. Than Amir can start or back-up Brand, and just does what he does. They need more inside presence especially in the playoffs going against the front courts of Miami, Orlando, Chicago, New York.

I'm not sure if it's a fair trade straight up. I'm pretty sure we will have to throw in something to balance it. I'm not sure what would do it though. Definitely not a 1st round pick, possibly a second if that's enough.

I just don't see why Philly would make this trade. They could easily sell one of their expiring contracts and a future draft pick for someone decent.

I like that it is a simple trade and not a 4 team mega trade

Maybe not fair skill wise, but it fills their needs of inside presence. Brand and Hawes can't do everything. Vucevic is up and coming. They need an energy big man, who just does what the team needs.

I'm pretty sure they don't have to give up a core piece to get a decent back up PF. They have 1st and 4 second rounders (may have memphis's as well and the hornets' next year) over the next two years, a TPE, and an expiring contract in Andres Nocioni (who they are not playing) which are all valuable trade assets. If it was a two team league then yes they should make this trade, unfortunately there are 28 other teams.

Example: Why not do Boris Diaw for Andres Nocioni? It works straight up.

The Bobcats save some money due to the difference in contracts and they get rid of Diaw. Philly also has 2nd rounders to sweeten the deal. Philly gets a proven player to take into the playoffs. They then can sign a PF in the offseason.

Yeah, Lou Williams has been a key piece, doubt it would go down, but awesome trade for the Raptors.

Like I've always said, trades have it's positives, and negatives. Some make sense more than others.

Isn't Andres Nocioni a key role player for Philly as well? He brings that toughness factor and blue-collar type play to Doug Collins' squad.

Check out his playing time and his production, it looks like there is no room for him with Andre and Young playing the 3.
