No, I did mean to say "has", since he has admitted to changing his approach. On a competitive team that is realistically thinking playoffs, I would agree wholeheartedly with rookies having to earn their court time. However, on rebuilding teams, the high draft picks typically get lots of playing time to develop on-court in real game situations. Plus, I think there's a wide gap between the amount of time the Raptors' rookies were getting the first half of the season (often < 15 MPG, with many DNPs) and 'starters minutes'. This Raptors team was never realistically going to challenge for playoffs this year - both last year and this year SHOULD have been treated like building years (essentially 'tank' by developing young players ahead of worrying about a winning record)... the blame for that not being the case falls to both BC & DC, I think.
You're blaming Casey for following the mandate given to him by management above him? Do you really think that the coach has the ability to do as he pleases with the fortunes of the team over the course of the season? I'd say if Casey was coaching with a goal of making the playoffs then it's because it was the directive given to him, not because he authorized it himself. This isn't Greg Popovich we're talking about.

I'd blame Casey for coaching errors, but not for steering the franchise one way or the other.

If people are wondering why we keep hiring rookie coaches with no experience, it kind of starts here with Colangelo. The reason likely stems from the fact that BC wants to have full control, and a rookie coach wouldn't have enough clout to have it any other way.

I'm not sure why full control means so much to him at this point. He's been hired to make this team a legitimate playoff contender, not a dictator. To do that he needs an experienced coach. Head scratcher.

I'm not sure if Bryan likes conflict. He's seems to love people too much (thus gives all his players generous extensions). If he hired people that disagreed with his methods then it would make coming to work a lot harder for him. So he hires people that do what he says. Most bosses actually do this in the real world. In my opinion a good boss would hire people that would challenge them. Colangelo does not appear to be a good boss though (at least his record and some of his odd decisions have proven that he isn't).

I think its far more important to be successful then to be liked, but that's not the characteristic a lot of people have. Not from what I've seen.

Logically this makes sense. However it's Bryan Colangelo so logic goes out the window. My guess is he still feels burdened about stepping out of his father's shadow and wants to get all the credit in order to build this team. If he hired a veteran coach, then the media might say it's the coach who turned this team around and not the GM.

OR, he's just a moron like we all think he is.

I think I've come to terms with the fact that Casey probably just didn't think about what he was saying. There's no way that Detroit game was any fault of JV's, but Ross played like crap (not that he cost them the game). Casey has this problem where he'll randomly list players just as he thinks of them, instead of actually coming up with a name that fits.

I still think his rotations have been messed all year, rookie things aside, and ths team has shown very little progress for some in-game aspects, most noticeably for me, plays out of timeouts, where the Raps execute badly and make so many poor decisions. Unless they are sure they can get a big-name coach to take over the program, the kind of guy even a new GM would have a hard time even wanting to fire, it is not such a bad thing to take him into next season.

Now that I think about it. There is a chance that Casey's gonna get fired. Hm, not sure how I feel about that yet.

I mean the difference in opinions on this guy has made a complete 180 since the end of last season. There we were talking bout how great of a defensive minded coach this guy was, how he had the respect in the locker room, and how he really got the best out of every player and overachieved greatly to the point where it fucked us over.

It's a shame, I like Casey a lot, but I don't think he's the right guy for this completely new roster of ours. Which I think would benefit greatly in a more fast paced and motion heavy offense. Especially our best player Gay, and our soon-to-be best player Jonas.

Casey has been here for 2 seasons now and well I dont think he got a fair shake to coach the team how he wanted give him the squad without Bargnani being here for a full 82 and that opinion will change again.

Casey is coaching to BCs design, Im really interested in what those 2 talk about....I hope Casey said you gotta move Bargnani off the squad hes un-coachable

It's really mind-boggling. I've 180ed as hard as I possibly could. At this point last year, I thought Casey could be a long-term hire. Now, I'd like to see him go.

But putting aside the rotations, rookie-minutes, and the inability of the team to inbound the ball when they're under pressure, what's displeased me most about his coaching this season is the way our defence nose-dived. And I've yet to hear a good explanation as to why. Some people try to put in on Val, but I don't buy that - sure, a rookie centre's always going to a problem on defence, but I don't think you can pin it all on him. (And he should not have been starting at the beginning of the year. He should have been eased in against second stringers. That's another of Casey's huge mistakes this year.) Some people say that there was too much roster turnover for the defence to stay solid, but that doesn't make any sense when you consider that last year was his first year with the team, and with an entire roster of new players. You can't have more 'turnover' than that. And yet, he built them into a decent defensive squad.

For whatever reason, there's an overall lack of aggressiveness and cohesion to the defence this year; and, as I said above, I've never seen a good explanation for that. And given that he's supposed to be a defensive specialist, this is the thing that has me doubting him the most.

I thought I would give Casey a benefit of a doubt this season with all the drama surrounding Bargs, Davis and Jose being traded for Gay, the fact we had to develop 2 rookies (or 3...), some of the injuries etc., etc. ... but that's enough for me. I think he needs to get lost. I thought it would be a good idea bringing in an assistant coach that is good on offense and that it would make up for Casey's deficiencies on that end, but I can now see beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Casey is just plain too stupid for a job as the head coach of an NBA team.

He says, that JV would probably play less minutes, if we were still in the race for the playoffs, because JV sometimes commits mistakes on D? So Casey, let me ask you... was Bargs or Grey better on D, when we were still in the race? How do you explain the messed up rotations, playing the entire bench for full quarters in close games, playing scrubs over starters for extended minutes while blowing leads and not calling timeouts or bringing back in the starters on time? All of this was happening when we still were in the race early in the season, middle of the season and right before we lost all hopes of making the playoffs!

I doubt Casey will change, EVER. He will keep on working with questionable rotations, badly timed timeouts, he'll never have any system for a solid offense, he'll never be a able to draw up one single offensive play for out-of-a-timeout situation and he simply will never be head coach material. He's probably best suited at being a defensive assistant coach for a solid team. He has to go, since he wouldn't agree to be downgraded and stay here as an assistant.
All the more to get nba coach with experience.....SVG please ! Casey is just a symptom of the underlying problem which is BC ....

If Casey had his way, we'd probably be seeing a whole lot more of Gray and AA. Apparently, Casey doesn't think that having useless possessions at the offensive end is a problem. That's why he doesn't mind AA chucking up useless shots early in the shot clock, creating fast-break opportunities for the opposition continuously.

Not to mention, Aaron Gray is probably one of the biggest offensive liabilities a team can have.
