Jack and Leo hates the idea of a name change as well. I hope it doesn't happen.
Well, they're just going to have to get used to the new names, for jack, "grandpa munster" and for leo "lurch"

    • Anyone know why I can't post attachments? I had to resort to changing my avatar as a means to upload my little logo creation.

Either way, this is my vision for a Toronto Raptor logo -- incorporating the maple leaf, the Toronto skyline & the original raptor design (but removing the jersey ... which I thought was tacky).

      • How about the Toronto Great Whites, it has duel purpose, the great white north and the great white sharks, who are a fierce creature!

You can't post attachments on here; just use photobucket or something similar.

That's not a bad idea. It rolls off the tongue well. Tigers, while obviously not significant to Canada, are a really cool image. It doesn't quite step on Hamilton's toes in the CFL, and it probably doesn't matter that Detroit are called the Tigers since that's baseball.

Don't know if it'd be my favorite option, but I'm definitely ok with it being an option.

                    • One of Toronto's Australian Rules Football teams combines two of my proposals, called the "Toronto Rebels" using a Racoon logo, as I suggested for the Toronto Bandits:

                      http://work.michaelsheedy.com/core/u...s/rebels_1.png
                      http://work.michaelsheedy.com/core/u...s/rebels_2.png

Tigers seems totally random and generic to me. Upper Canada Rebels would be way better. Toronto Bandits with a Racoon mascot/logo is pretty cool too.

Orange County Rebels Lacrosse team has a pretty cool logo:

Also, this very Canadian logo for this ball hockey team:

Upper Canada Rebels! Join the Rebellion!

                      • Tigers is a bit generic, but so is Rebels. And I really don't think it fits. Rebellious is not a word that describes Canada's past well. oronto Rebels could be in the discussion, but certainly not Upper Canada Rebels. Calling it Upper Canada doesn't make it more Canadian, it makes it more Ontarian...which may even be kind of annoying to some other parts. It should stay Toronto.

I strongly believe that it's almost always best to use the city's name. There are exceptions, but they usually make sense..

-Utah, Indiana are partly the city names are long, but it's also clearly partly because they're the only major cities in their states, and so it isn't pissing anyone off too much
-Golden State was taken to avoid any controversy when the team moved to across the bridge to Oakland. And I mean, now they're on schedule to move back to San Francisco.

Anyway, I would also take Bandits over Rebels. It doesn't seem to fit either, but hey, we stole half a continent from the native population, so Bandits fits better than Rebels. And nothing better symbolizes Toronto's wildlife landscape than the Raccoon.....for better or worse.

                        • I do think Upper Canada is more Canadian simply because it has the word "Canada" in it, and refers to Canadian history, but even if you don't buy that, it is, as you say, more "Ontarian" and so includes Ottawa, London, KW, Hamilton, etc.

In any case, I also think Bandits would be cool, especially because of the idea of a Raccoon mascot/logo, as you say, the Raccoon obviously fits Toronto.

Raccoon logos for teams called Bandits work well.

Here is a Boston girls softball team:

                          http://www.parkwayboston.com/wp-cont...ndits-Logo.jpg

and a Junior Hockey team, also from Boston:

                          http://jrbandits.goalline.ca/news_im...n_bandits2.jpg

Or this god-awful bit of work from a minor pro hockey team in LA:

                          http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/logos/n...ndits_1996.gif

I really like the more dramatic black and white Raccoon style used by the Toronto Rebels Australian Rules Football team way better than all of those though.

                          • I was thinking why all the nicknames, why not just Tortonto Basketball Club, but then again, if we play it would show up at nba.com as TBC.

That's Euro style. Over here in North America we like to name our teams after wildlife and inanimate objects.

                              • Though I did suggest Royal Canadian Basketball Team as the name. With a mounty mascot, of course.
