BADAJOZ, Spain – Spanish point guard Jose Manuel Calderon said on Monday that his “only priority” is to remain in the NBA.
He commented at the presentation of the 7th edition of the youth basketball program he offers in Caceres.
“The kids will ask me a lot this year about which team I am going to play for,” said the 31-year-old Spanish international, who becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
While acknowledging some European clubs are interested in signing him, he said that he still has “much to do” in the NBA, where he has played since 2005.
After seven seasons with the Toronto Raptors, Calderon was traded in January to the Detroit Pistons, but expects to receive “good and positive” offers from other teams when the free agency period begins July 1.
One NBA watcher ranks Calderon among this summer’s top 15 free agents. EFE
