Just read an article where Karl Malone left Magic and Jordan on his all time starting 5 list. Stockton over Magic is debatable. Stockton is also one of the greatest of all time, plus he's Malone's best buddy. Not sure what his reason putting Pippen over Jordan though.

Anyway, here's my all time starting 5:

C - Bill Russell
PF - Tim Duncan
SF - Larry Bird
SG - Michael Jordan
PG - Magic Johnson

Magic got asked this question last night on PTI. He said the following:

For me it would be:

I went with players that I watched extensively. I know there are arguments for some of the older guys... It hurts me to put LeBron on the list because I really don't like the guy but whatever, it is what it is... He belongs there in my books.

I am curious as to how you could take Pippen over Bird AND Lebron. Pippen was great, dont get me wrong, but Bird and James are on another level to me.

Well you notice that I have two separate lists, one with guys I think are the best players, and one that I think would be the most formidable actual starting 5. But I don't know if you are referring to me.

I took Pippen in the 2nd one to be the designated role player in a starting 5 unit. I don't like having 5 alpha dogs on a starting 5. That way you can sick him on the best offensive player on the other team and save all your other players from that task. It's not like he'll hurt you offensively. Pippen is maybe the best defensive wing ever.

That is something that makes more sense, and I can understand that, though it seems to me based off of things Pippen has said now, that he was seriously jealous of Michael in Chicago, and probably isn't the best "glue" guy. Still, I can see your point.

I just dont know how Malone (and many other people who agree with him) could say that Scottie is better than Larry or Michael or Lebron etc.

What I don't like about Shaq is that he can't hit a free throw. If the starting 5 is playing a team of aliens from a different planet, I'm sure they'll game plan around hack-a-shaq.
