  • 2 Trades

Toronto Raptors receive: Greg Monroe, Steve Nash, Chris Kaman
Los Angeles Lakers receive: Landry Fields, $3.2 mill trade exception
Detroit Pistons receive: Jared Dudley, Willie Green, Raptors 2015 1st Rounder
Los Angeles Clippers receive: Amir Johnson

Greg Monroe is a strong offensive presence inside the paint, something Toronto doesn't really have at the moment, and Chris Kaman is a very capable backup. Lakers shed Kaman's salary as well as the extra $3 million from moving Nash for Fields. Detroit can now move Josh Smith to the PF position while moving Dudley to the starting SF role which gives Detroit a very strong defensive front court between Drummond, Smith and Dudley.
And the Clippers get a legitimate backup big which they do not have.

    Trade 2

Toronto Raptors receive: Francisco Garcia, Ronnie Brewer
Houston Rockets receive: John Salmons, Elton Brand
Atlanta Hawks receive: Omer Asik, J.J. Barea
    Minnesota Receives: Lou Williams

    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mqa7poq

Toronto moves Salmons contract which can be bought it for two solid bench guys. Houston can buyout Salmons while Elton Brand is expiring and combined with moving Asik they gain much more cap room. Atlanta can start Asik, Horford and Millsap together which creates easily one of the best front courts in the NBA. And Minnesota just adds a better shooter which they always seem to be lacking.

    Lowry/Nash/Vasquez
    DeRozan/Garcia/Novak
    Ross/Brewer
    Monroe/Patterson/Hansbrough
    Valanciunas/Kaman/Hayes

That is a very deep bench in my opinion.

Well the way I looked at it was Landry Fields hasn't played more than 5 minutes since December 10th and is owed 6.3 million. Moving him for Nash and Kaman gives us two players who can actual be useful coming off the bench and at least with Nash there's the whole Canadian angle. And it's not as though we have to rely on Nash for a lot of minutes, 18-22 a night would be ideal which is much more than what we're getting out of Fields.
