This trade would be even better if Masai could trade Landry Fields and picks for Thaddeus Young instead of Salmons

Philly is looking for prospects or picks for Thad, Evans and Hawes not just salary relief and besides, they can get a lot better than just Salmons and a 2nd rounder for Thad.

They can maybe get a better asset....

But I get the impression the market isn't great for any of their assets relative to their asking price. Because Turner and Hawes are expiring, it seems like no one is willing to give them a 1st rounder.

As for Young, his contract screws everything up. If he was a bit cheaper, or had a year less, maybe they get a 1st rounder or good young player. Maybe they'll have to settle for an unproven young player, or possible problem (Waiters), or something similar to the Salmons + 2nd round pick deal (worse pick, but decent vet/contract).

OKC could use Young as a bench scorer. But they can't really give up Perkins without getting back a C before the deadline as well. Don't know if they have interest in Hawes and Young, because then they'd have to give up more pieces than they might want to...And OKC seems allergic to trading 1st rounders....

Maybe the Clippers have interest? But nothign to really offer

I doubt they would trade Thad Young without a monster offer. Long term, he's a good young player who can be part of their rebuilt team for many years. Short term, they are successfully tanking with him on the team.

                seriously...?!

Unlike organizations in win now mode who are - or at least consider themselves to be - contenders, second round picks don't have as much value. For teams like San Antonio, Golden State or Houston for example, 2nd rounders can have more value than their late first round picks because unlike first round picks, second round picks don't have a cap hold for the following season, cost less, and have unguaranteed contracts that provide much more flexibility. That, and the difference between picks in the late first round and early second is often minimal at best. In fact, players who could make an immediate impact (however minimal) who aren't worth an early to mid first round selections often fall to the second round as contending teams selecting in the 20-30 range often take high potential international players that they can "draft and stash" until they're needed or ready to make the jump to the NBA.

Also, most of the talk coming out of Philly about Young seems to indicate that they're fine holding on to him to this summer or next season given the reservations some have about his contract unless they receive a great offer. Sooo, it isn't likely that they'd take your offer, especially considering that they'd still have to pay salmons a million next year NOT to play for them. Also, the fact that they're in the first year of their rebuild means that theyre not going to need a lot of cap space until at least the summer of 2015, when Young could potentially be off their books anyway.
Being a Toronto Raptors fan is like being in an abusive relationship... Every time you've reached your breaking point after years of disappointment and neglect, they do just enough to give you hope for the future... Only to let you down again.

                Here's hoping 2014-2015 breaks the cycle!!! #WeTheNorth
