nothing to do with Bosh's contract .. just the TPE that we got when we sign and traded him. It was simply cap space that allowed us to trade for a higher salary. Totally analagous to what Salmons is today. My point is that has very little value (certainly not enough to get a 1st rounder for)

Well if they want to get rid of Perk, they have to throw something in. I'm pretty indifferent to whether it's Jones or a 1st rounder if they are dealing with us.

Of course, they don't HAVE TO trade Perk. They could stay under the tax even with him on the roster. But they may also like to open up the roster spot and try to get, you know, an actually useful piece.

Bennett has low value and they need to try and save face, and they don't want to pay Tristan the big bucks...they get an established 2/3 all star, replace Tristan with a high quality leader in Amir and still get a first rounder. Wiggins might be too good in this trade, but they will have too many young first rounders to get time this year and they want to win now.

Bennett had low value in January. Towards the end of the season he started playing like someone who was expected to mature into a good forward. The Cavs would be foolish to trade him now.

Bennett did not play very much at all at the end of last season. One game in April, and 4 games in March.

Perk plus a 1st for Salmons should be a definite yes.

Johnson was acquired for our first rounder (the miami pick). Maybe the TPE helped the contract (not sure), but the value was the pick. Bayless was part of the Jack deal. TPE may have allowed us to get Peja (and wave him). Bottom line, yes, it does have some limited value ... but teams arent giving up first rounders for it ...

I might be ok with Jones III even instead of a pick. Turning Salmons into any young cheap asset is not bad.

He'd be perfect imo if he gets properly developed, as he could be that stretch 4 who could play the 3, 4, and 5 spots, can't teach height. The worst case would be that he'll be Anthony Randolph 2.0.

Think his character is way better than Randolph...which counts for a lot. But production-wise, maybe.

That's not the point of the trade.

The point of the trade is to acquire another 1st round pick. If we need a backup center, we don't need to get one that costs 9M. We're taking on Perkins' contract from OKC in exchange for the pick. The fact that Perkins happens to be potentially a solid backup center is just an added bonus.

Perkins is not that good. He is not worth giving up any real asset. If anything he was a liability for OKC more often than he was a help, including in the playoffs.

It's all about situation though. When teams are clearing cap room to make a run at a marquee free agent, they do stupid things. MIA gave up first rounders to clear a few extra million in cap room in summer 2010, and that paid off for them. Since then, teams are much more willing to go all in for cap space if they think they've got a shot at a big name. Melo being a free agent this summer spikes Salmons' value considerably. Nothing still may come of it (it's a 30 team league after all), but there is definitely value there.
