NBA cares when you get 150k.
    They care about the source.

Filipino here. I have friends who paid tickets to go see the "game". people paid 26k pesos (around $600 CAD) for courtside seats. promoter knew as early as April that players are not allowed to participate in anything physical-related because insurance was not settled. but still, promoters advertised to locals that local team will play against nba players.

it was indeed advertised as a charity event, and that the money raised will go to the yolanda typhoon victims. promoter is the owner of biggest telecom company in the phils, comparable to rogers here. apologized for the misunderstanding, offered refund but urged ticket holders not to ask for refund so money can go to charity (might be BS).

turns out, when promoter couldnt secure insurance, they offered (and offer was accepted) to pay the players $150k each to participate, maybe thinking that if players agree, they wont have to be covered by the insurance. but NBA stepped in and stopped everything.

might not be a big issue to the fans here in North America but definitely an issue in the Philippines and probably other countries planning to invite NBA players over.

Did they get paid 150k participated in the event and paid a 150k fine?

Was the amount of the payment disclosed by the amout of the fine?

Which would mean that DD, Kyle and Terrence basically did this in full knowledge of the context and agreed to participate in that event for free (especially if the $$$ in fines are returning to Philippines).
        Myself (March 2014):
The raptors are a tremendous young team and will win a championship in the following five years.
