Who plays more backup centre minutes---James Johnson or Bebe?

Tough question. JJ is in DCs dawghouse, and Bebe is too young for DC to think about playing him.

I'd like to start Bebe first. I think he provides better rim protection than JJ, and provides for more lob opportunities. However, JJ would give us the ability to scramble more on defense.

Loved the effort by JJ last night. Played solid defense on LBJ and whomever he was switched on to. Also canned a pair of threes. Didn't do anything boneheaded on defense, but threw that one lazy pass which resulted in a fast break bucket. I think he's earned a bit more PT, no?

same as udonis that deal is showing up on the ticker on nba tv. JJ had some good minutes against the heat in the playoff's totally shut down joe johnson right after carrol was getting torched by him in the post.

Love this guy, sad to see him go but i hope in miami he has a better chance to excel, so much potential just needs the right environment and opportunity.

The sad thing is that if JJ had the mentoring/nurturing he deserved in his first few years in the league, he probably would've developed into a poor man's Shawn Marion. A guy who can basically do anything on the court. Just imagine if JJ had the advantages that Bruno currently has.

Or imagine if Dwane Casey wasn't his coach last year.

During his time in Chicago he had a hard time seeing the court. His rookie season he played in 65, starting 11, for coach Vinny Del Negro, but only averaged about 11 minutes a game.

However, he was outshined by fellow rookie Taj Gibson, who overtook Tyrus Thomas for the starting power forward spot. Gibson started 70 games that season, which led to Johnson looking like a disappointment.

Last season under new coach Tom Thibodeau it was even harder for Johnson to get on the court. He appeared in only 13 games before being traded to the Raptors. Most of his time on the court was spent in garbage time when the Bulls were up or down big.

It was clear Johnson did not fit in Thibodeau's plan.

Bulls drafted JJ #16, year and a half later trade him for Miami's pick, a team that was 41-15 at the time . In other words, for what they knew was going to be just about the last pick in the 1st round.

Casey has faults, but people mindlessly blame him for anything and everything.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

I remember watching this game and thinking JJ sucked.. not for getting dunked on just his overall play..
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAyKv5UznxU

Then when he got to the raps it seemed like he oozed potential as a point-forward, and like others feel he was "underutilized"

Realistically it was probably as much him as a person more than his game that held him back

While a number of forum posters were sad to see JJ go, it seems like his decision to head to Miami has been a good one. He's playing nearly 25 minutes per game and averaging 11 points and 4 rebounds a game, along with a handful of steals and blocks.

He's also in line to get even more minutes now that Justice Winslow is done for the year (shoulder surgery) and may be able to cash in this coming off season for a relatively big payday.

I am happy for him, he's playing great and has a nice jumper now too. Getting a lot of minutes at the 4 spot.

Spoelstra has been playing him as a small ball 5 as well.

All that work he put into his 3 pt shooting has been paying off - he's hit 40 at a .385 clip.

At one point Casey said JJ was the most talented player on the Raps, so there must have been some pretty serious stuff going on behind the scenes why the Raps wouldn't keep trying to make it work with him. JJ would have been perfect starting in place of Siakam this year.
