Might have to do with two things:

1) Nike sponsorship with team USA and KD heading to UA (unlikely)

2) OKC ownership pressure (more likely)

I'd take a risk on DeMar getting better. With no doubt he should get better, and hopefully he won't get injured.

KD has championship aspirations this season so he obviously doesn't want to get injured.

For DeMar its about getting better. KD is not going to get much better from team USA, and DeMar knows this experience is once in a lifetime. KD will have many more years with team USA if he chooses to.

DeMar DeRozan is a lock for TEAM USA after KD pulled out of the event, I think DeRozan can make it given the fact that he might even start at the 3-spot for the team.
