  • Thon Maker might become a Canadian

There are reports that Thon Maker a future number one NBA draft pick has left his high school in Virginia and is headed to Canada, specifically the Athlete Institute in Orangeville to play along side Canadian prospect Jamal Murray. Also it's reported he would like to become a Canadian citizen. If this is true I can only imagine how great team Canada would be in the future with the addition of Maker.

Pretty sure its a done deal:

Crazy. Apparently athletes at the Athletes Institute attend Orangeville District Secondary School or ODSS (having gone to elementary school in Orangeville, we used to call it Overdose Secondary. Not the best reputation. I'm sure that's changed now though... ?

Also, apparently the thinking behind this is that he can avoid having to go to College, being an "International" player?

Might get some stiff competition from Sweden. Have you seen their bikini team?

                        I don't know what this means. I don't actually think he's being anti-Canada.

The Thon Maker story is bizarre. Great prospect who's been shuttled all over the U.S.--and now Canada--by his guardian. Terrible for the kid

The Makers make it official, enrolling at the Athlete Institute in Orangeville.

It would be awesome if this kid gets Canadian citizenship. Crazy potential.

Never heard of the Athlete Institute before today though Jamal Murray is familiar to me.
