Keep in mind that a thompson max =/= a lebron max. These young players entering there second contracts are only being offered ~~15 million. Yes that is a long but it isn't kobe max. Also when you a team like GS and CLE you HAVE to pay to keep these young players to give yourself a chance. No way can you let them just leave. Plus like others have mentioned the players know the TV deal is going up and can more leverage in negotiations...
Agents are definitely gaining much stronger influence in the league. The whole LRMR / Clutch Sports agency management thing is strange. It allows Lebron to indirectly have influence on player movement, salaries, drafting and the media through his buddies and Rich Paul. I don't understand how this doesn't constitute a massive conflict of interest.

LRMR seems to have influence over media outlets to some degree. Did anybody notice how there were an unusually large amount of articles last off-season about how Eric Bledsoe (LRMR client) deserved the max salary, which he ultimately got. Writers don't usually go out of their way to write feature articles on those type of things, but we saw that with Bledsoe. There's no way TT deserves anything close to the max.

All these damn Canadians playing in the NBA are watering down the level of quality.

The game is way more talented now than it has ever been. A lot of starters from the 80's - 90's would barely be DLeague quality today, which made the stars of the era shine that much brighter. If Lebron played in the 90's he'd probably average something like 35-15-10 without trouble. The average NBA player is a lot better today than 20 years ago.
35-15-10 without trouble would be a reach. But you have to remember that if you dropped him into that era his teammates would be those barely be DLeague quality guys as well. So lets start with assists (10); How many assists does LBJ get by tossing the ball to the wing and a player drains a three? We know that 3 point shooting was not at the quality by today's standard, so why is he getting more assists? LBJ doesn't really get a lot of assists by passing inside the key like the games was played back then (would be playing with players that played that way). Next rebounds (15); Back in that era there were not a lot of long rebounds that you see today that inflate the rebounding numbers of the 321 players. Also in that era those Dleague quality players would be able to take a lot more liberties with the physicality of the game that you don't see today. Points; LBJ has a decent shot, but also has the benefit of a lot of star calls (Jordan rules) that he wouldn't get in that era. Also I wonder about his aggressiveness, he is not always that aggressive in today's NBA, how would he react to driving the lane with Rick Mahorn and the Prince of Darkness (those DLeague quality guys) hitting him into the floor every time? Not saying he wouldn't thrive, he would be a top 3 player for sure. But 35-15-10 No way.

These "Player X would dominate if they were playing in Y time" questions are always interesting. But, as Qunitarka pointed out, you need to put them into context. Taking Lebron back to the 1970's or 1980's would mean he came up through the 1960's school system, with the coaching available then. He wouldn't have access to the training facilities, nutritional advice or coaching as he received when he was coming up through today's basketball world.

Obviously James is a genetically gifted specimen and would shine. He would probably be the best player of the day. But would he project to a triple double average? Impossible to say. Oscar Robertson did it for one season. I wonder what Oscar would do in today's NBA, if he had grown up with the coaching, training, practice time (NBA players used to actually take the summers off, stop working out, gain weight etc: that's why they had pre-seasons initially).

I think when their careers are over guys like Chris Paul and John Wall and Steph Curry will be able to be argued to be on all time top 10 point guard lists. Not too shabby if you ask me.
Would love to see which 3 point guards you are taking off the Top 10 list to insert these guys. IMO, none of these guys are top 15 all time, let alone top 10 at the end of their careers. To put it in perspective, there are top 10 lists out there that give Steve Nash an honourable mention.
There's math, and everything else is debatable.

"Player X would dominate if they were playing in Y time" - If we're talking about simply dropping a modern NBA player in his prime into another era - yes they would most definitely dominate. The talent pool they have to come through to make the NBA is much MUCH more talented - both athletically and fundamentally. Fringe NBA starters and role players might have serious problems competing with modern NCAA college players never-mind NBA rosters.

If we're talking about Bill Russell being born in 1985 and coming up through a USA\NCAA how would you see him panning out as a NBA player? Mozgov? Ewing? Noah? - My bet would be a Horace Grant type...

He said "when their careers are over" which is a big distinction. I think Paul needs a ring or at least a finals appearance(and could certainly get there), and Curry could have an MVP, NBA title and possibly finals MVP (depending on the last 3 games) so he's on the right track. I wouldn't put John Wall in that list.
