So, does that stat show that DeMarre is doing ok in his role, or not?
RPM has him 12th among SF's with a +1.7 rating. So, yes. But keep in mind it is terribly unreliable in small samples. BPM is normalized to smaller samples, but completely unreliable (or at least not really describing the same things as most PM stats) for different reasons. He's third on the team with a +1.9 rating in that.

We've all watched every game basically and can see DeMarre usually hasn't been close to as advertised

Why do we need to do this to try and figure it out

Actually I said I thought he looked ok on the court, but I wasn't really expecting an elite defensive stopper after last season.

        • Demarre is not an anchor

          Demarre is a positive contributor

DeMarre usually hasn't been close to as advertised

          These can all be true.

This isn't a Landry Fields situation.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

Translation: we searched high and low and eventually found 2 stats that make Carroll look like less than trash. Unfortunately, one of those stats sucks really bad and the other stat is completely useless. lol.

There are plenty of stats that make him look good. Opponent DFG% he's also very strong in. It's another stat that is problematic, because defensive stats are all problematic.

He shoots threes well. We can say that with confidence.

                    • Carroll is finely coming together as the small forward we really need. I wish for this trend to continue and for Carroll to come out strong in the playoffs like he did for the Hawks on their conference finals run.

                        • as of 1/15/2017, Demarre is better than Joseph. Not an epic improvement, but it's progress

                          • The nice thing about the Knicks game was Lowry looking for Carroll cutting to the basket as a primary option on multiple possessions. Hopefully Carroll is finally developing some chemistry with Lowry & DD. That bodes well.

With half the season to get tight with Lowry and Demarr. He will definitely be a help in the playoffs.

Even JV hit him on a cut!
