Ya, not really, its weird. "Dozens dead", but I did something like 700+ injured, which still seems low, but who knows, maybe it wasn't as busy as people have been speculating?

we are hearing 60+ dead and 700+ injured. we are being told no chemicals to worry about and everything was definitely handled safely. we are also hearing that any fallout will be blown over to korea anyway so nothing to fear in china. also the officials are the best.

people my wife knows are saying different things and they work at the shipping port where this happened. we have a rumors law though that says anything repeated on the internet more than 6 times and shared a certain number of times is spreading discontent. think newspeak. anything not agreeing with the party is subject to, like all laws, arbitrarily being punished by up to 3 years in prison.

i would assume that your media is self censuring itself so that it can remain in china.

The chinese government is a great world government, an example to be followed.

Look how prosperous they've made the country

I think America, post WWII, pre-JFK assasintation is the greatest model a country could ever have.

It had the right combination of freedom, security and prosperity. Things are a lot more complicated than they were back then though.

complete blackout now except for news about the sacrifices from firefighters. through the vps i see a bunch of families rushed a press conference due to the info blackout and that the firefighters fought the fire with water on a chemical that explodes from water effectively worsening the situation. they will hate this because they can`t use the deaths as a lobbying tool. and they will be working hard to have everyone forget this as soon as possible because we are all supposed to be hating the japanese before the sep 3 holiday. dubbed by local chinese as the `fuck japan day`

Incoming Weather Pattern Could Prove Dangerous

This is only getting started unfortunately.

Fears are growing for nearly 100 Chinese firefighters still missing after being sent to tackle the deadly explosions in Tianjin last week, amid reports that 70 times the permitted quantity of sodium cyanide had been stored at a warehouse near the blasts.
Chinese officials found what they believe to be 700 tonnes of sodium cyanide at two locations within the site of Wednesday’s deadly blasts, state media reported on Sunday.
                        http://www.theguardian.com/world/201...allowed-amount

What immediate risk does the cyanide pose?

With storms moving into the area, environmental officials raised concerns that sodium cyanide exposed by the explosions Wednesday could release poisonous hydrogen cyanide into the air.
Sodium cyanide is water-soluble, and "if there is rain, it will produce hydrogen cyanide, so we are monitoring it closely," said Bao Jingling, chief engineer for the Tianjin Environmental Protection Bureau.

While "we can say currently it isn't very serious," Bao said, members of the Army's anti-chemical warfare division were dispatched to the scene Sunday, where they could be seen working in gas masks.

Hhydrogen cyanide gas is a highly toxic chemical that interferes with the body's ability to use oxygen, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which describes it as "rapidly fatal."
                        http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/ti...elease-n410806

Because it becomes gas when interacting with water I guess it's unfortunately safe to conclude that the missing firefighters would have had exposure to cyanide in gas form while putting out the fires...

It almost seems like we can no longer get through a year without a major environmental event occurring; BP oil spill, Fukushima, now Tianjin and sprinkled in between those are less severe incidents.

                          Mystery White Foam in Tianjin?

The first rainfall to wash over Tianjin since a series of blasts struck a warehouse in the Binhai district last week has sparked a new wave of concern as an unidentified white foam has appeared on the streets.
Some who made contact with it are reporting a burning sensation on their face and lips, while others are reporting a stinging sensation on their arms. Some have said they experienced an itchy sensation
                          http://shanghaiist.com/2015/08/18/fi...jin_explos.php

Whatever this stuff is would presumably now be in the local water and food supplies. Scary stuff for the Chinese people.

                          SKIN EXPOSURE:
Irritation, tissue damage (ulceration), burning sensation, and pain.
Absorption through the skin can contribute to whole-body (systemic) toxicity.
                          http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/ershdb/emer..._29750036.html

Not to say this is what's definitively happening but for those following this it might be the case..

This again underscores the need for regulations and their strict enforcement especially for dangerous commodity handling. China has grown economically very fast over the last few years and it seems so has corruption and graft which allows for bypassing needed controls.

That last pic obviously looks like a chemical reaction with rain water and whatever chems spread by the explosion. Frightening and what it would take to clean it all up.

It can never be properly cleaned now. You have to think it's in the ground water.
