They did "accelerate the rebuild" a la BC, by bringing in Monroe and Vasquez, but that is an easier fix than the position we're in. By controlling Giannis and Parker they can retool easily around two potential stars. Monroe has a player option in 2017-18 and Henson's deal is easily digestible, especially given the flashes he's shown.

The Bucks, for instance, have a projected payroll almost $22mm lower than us next year.
We can spend our way over the cap with Bird Rights... but for who? DeMar?
The issue is we don't have the talent on the roster that's worth spending big bucks on to go over the cap. We need to cash in assets for value via trade if we're going to keep trying to build from the middle. Then try to work sign-and-trades in free agency, though I think the Ross deal will end up really screwing us.
That said, I do have a feeling this is going to be a more active year for trades than we've seen in some time, so hopefully Masai is ready to pounce. Whether he can extract enough value for us remains to be seen.

(Actually, I think the whole point of him saying it in the first place was to prime the fan base for a complete tear down.) But then, unexpectedly, the team started winning...
Also, (maybe sadly), the no man's land comment was made when he had full backing from Leiweke, a man who goes after championships. Now, he's answering to a money man, and the allure of the packed houses and playoff revenue that come with a treadmill team may veto any suggestion of a tear down.

Ironic how we are talking about the importance of on-court chemistry on the Bucks, where the prevailing wisdom on this board is that talent trumps all - especially young talent with high upside and a great coach. While at the same time, in this thread, we are questioning Masai's decision to keep building around a chemistry that works to some degree. Will be an interesting case study to watch for the next few seasons for both teams.
