  • A Rembrandt - computer generated

Quite the achievement. I am surprised it hasn't happened until now. We have had computers beat world chess champions and recently the Go champ.... 3D printers creating all manner of physical items etc. - so why not a new painting masterpiece.

    Weird but cool.

Goes against everything many know and feel about Art.. I'm sure many would claim blasphemy when told that Rembrandt's greatness can be broken down to a simple Algorithm.

Machines imitating art (and high art at that). Technology has indeed become ubiquitous. What next? The next great novel? Ha.

What do they gain from this again? I just wonder why such great minds and resources couldn't be dedicated to causes to improve humanity instead of making humans 'obsolete'?

I'm surprised that a bank is funding this. I guess they want to produce their own Rembrandts at ING and save their money.

                The following link may assist:

This seems to be a multi-organisational effort. Many companies fund the arts and other social endeavours. This one in particular is assisting in furthering not just an artistic project but also an educational one ...eg. computerized modelling . My own impression is that by creating art of any kind this in fact helps humanity.

Not sure about the Dutch tax system but ING is probably reducing their tax burden with their financial contributions here
