  • Or the franchise tag. A franchise tag would piss off Durant but hey, that's business and right now this business favors the players too much and hurts the people who allow these players to make so much money: the fans.

      • Miami should try to deal Bosh now and begin the rebuild. They have some nice young building blocks.

If Miami calls Toronto should send it immediately to vmail.

Franchise tag is an asshole move though, it's already bad in the NFL but in the NBA where it's only 15 players on a team, 7 that matter and one that's actually the star it would be awful for the players.

If they simply took away the limit on max contracts this wouldn't be a problem. Lebron's max should not be the same as Mike Conley's or Lamarcus Aldridge, it makes no sense. That way you'd actually have to balance out a team properly.

I feel like his health concerns will make dealing bosh a very tough thing to do.

Leaving a team with nothing is an asshole move that impacts millions of people. Instituting a franchise tag is an asshole move that only impacts one person. It wouldn't be awful for the players if the tag cost was high enough. In this new cap system maybe it's hypothetically $30M for one season and rises to $40M in the second application. Right now Durant is probably only going to do one year and be on the market next year's so what difference is it to him monetarily? If he wants a long deal outside the Thunder than he has to work with them for a S&T.

I would argue the franchise tag is more important in the NBA because one guy bailing can hurt so badly.

They'd be practically giving him away but they're going down next year anyway. There's a loser in the FA market who might bite.

Most people, in their professional careers, have multiple opportunities to choose their own path. Most professional athletes get one, maybe two opportunities. You want to further limit that?

Why is it so bad if guys get to choose for themselves once in a while?

I always bring it back to simple employer/employee relationships when such discussions happen. Forget the money, forget the fame, imagine if your employer FORBID YOU from leaving your job even after your contract with them was done. It's madness that any place allows such a thing.

I 100% agree with him on this issue though. Durant basically left his balls in OKC with this move.

He admitted to the world that he's not a #1 guy, he basically became #2 to Russ in OKC but now he just announced it to the world that that's what he is. It's kind of sad for himself, but it's also awful for NBA as a whole since 1/2 of the HOF talent from 3rd best team in the world just joined the 2nd best team in the world.
Or he said he wanted to win championships?

                        As Curry's sidekick.

The Warriors have already won without him, they don't need him. He admitted that he needs them. He's not lifting them up to any place they haven't been, he's just tagging along.

Totally agree, idk why so many people are against players having free will.

He could've won in OKC. If he and Westbrook didn't lose there minds they should have beaten GSW.

KD already had a Championship quality team.

Because it's detrimental to the people who take the financial risks in the business and most importantly it's detrimental to the customers. Who gains from Durant joining the Warriors? Warriors ownership and their fans. Everyone else loses. All other teams lose and the people pumping money into the league lose. It hurts the integrity of the game.
