Step down from the ledge GLF. This too will pass. Even if DeMar does not.
LOL I think I'm worrying more because of how horrid we looked with Pascal starting against Washington. Like it was BAD. If that's how we are going to be starting games until Sullinger comes back we are fucked. Like I get the bench looking bad without Bebe and Joseph and Ross but the starters looked terrible as well. Gonna be a Scola situation all over again. Dammit. Maybe Casey won't take as long to realize and start starting Patterson. But I think the only way he will is if we continue to play terrible D and start losing a lot.

bebe is injured and now sully is gone for the first part of the season.

that leaves us with pascal, poertle, paterson and jv as the only bigs left...

we better hope patterson and JV stay healthy otherwise we are in BIG trouble
Let's not even think about JV or Patterson getting injured. Please.

      • Problems with Siakam starting are basically:

        1) On the defensive end, good teams will challenge DeMar/Siakam in PnR situations often. DeMar gives up on plays, and if Siakam makes the wrong read, it's an easy basket.

        2) On the offensive end, teams will not respect him, which results in clogged paint scenarios.

YUP! Supposedly he is getting screws put into his foot for preventative reasons. Does anyone know how long something like that usually takes to recover from? I know Raptors are never going to give us a timeline as usual so I'm hoping someone here might now.
That depends on how extensive the damage is, and there's no chance the Raptors give that information up. But putting in a screw? Brook Lopez had that done a few years back, then had to have secondary surgery to fix the screw when it started to bend. Durant had a screw inserted two years ago; the Thunder kept trying to rush him back, and he ended up shutting it down. Either way, its tough to be overly optimistic given its the same foot he had problems with before.

Yea everything I'm reading just sounds terrible. I'm not even gonna bother thinking about Sullinger anymore because he won't be back any time soon and when he does come back he's going to have to get back into game shape which takes time. Oh well. Unless one of the rookies or Bebe really step up and play better than expected we are in for a long season. We can find ways to score but our defense is going to be brutal.

              • morbid prediction: he rushes himself back because it's a contract year, then gets more seriously injured.

sad part is he could have avoided so many problems by getting in shape. maybe he wouldn't have even had this injury, and if he did, he'd already have a big money deal.

Anyways, the "non-solution" solution to the 4-spot problem just disappeared. what now, masai?

                • Well I guess the young guys are going to play for sure now..

Not that worried as long as Sully is healthy for playoffs with some sort of chemistry.

How Masai deals with this will be telling. Sullinger was a band-aid. Something tells me "well, getting Sullinger back healthy will be like making a trade!" isn't going to fly.

I think it was low risk, low reward. All it shows is that there were really no meaningful changes to the squad this summer.

I just hope this doesn't put such a huge workload on Carroll that he ends up injured too. I expect DC to go small a LOT.

That's plenty reason to worry and judge this as a high risk move though. With young bigs who are all unproven, we needed at least one other known quantity we could depend on after JV and Pat. We just lost that.

We also have a coach who gets crazy fond of small ball. And he also tends to let the game get more disorganized in doing so. We also lost our defensive specialist who preached a more conservatie/effective defensive system, and our head coach was always in love with his "scramble" D before last season. Will small ball degenerate into more "scramble"? If it does we may as well get ready for the early playoff exit that'll come with it.

                          • This is a blessing in disguise. If you think about it it gives guys like Pascal and Jakob a chance to actually get minutes and develop. The rest of our team remains intact and ready to go.

From a strategic standpoint, making a bandaid move like Sullinger was absolutely a high-risk move. Our cap situation is only going to get messier next summer with Kyle needing to be re-signed. That's why I've repeatedly expressed disappointment that we haven't consolidated our so-called assets into a change that will move the needle.

Every year there's talk of involving Jonas more... DD/Kyle averaged 25 FGA per game in the preseason to Jonas's 7. I don't get how using the same approach again is going to lead to meaningful improvement. I think we were very lucky to beat the Pacers and Heat last year... Not sure we'll escape by the skin of our teeth this time around.

                              • Here's a thought from the silver lining department. Just pretend Scola got injured. That's where we are (sort of). Remember, before Biyombo became our security blanket at the end of the season, for the first third, we were just counting blown bunnies and watching the team play 4 on 5 on offense. We can do this.
