Who is hot and who is not in the race this evening..

Bucks vs Bulls. The Bulls are in trouble. They win a game from time to time but Jalens second best team in the east is scuffling. Noises are starting to surround the coach as having the hottest seat in the league as the Bulls hang on to 8th one game under 500. The Bucks with Parker and the Alphabet have crushed the Bulls in the last two outings. With a win the Bucks would move up to 7th or 8th and the Bulls would move to 9th. Look for the Bucks to start their climb up the standings tonight.

Knicks vs Rockets The Knicks are a resilient lot and are still in the hunt but tonight they draw the Rockets who put up 140 last night against the Clippers. Yeah Chris Paul didn't play but still.. 140 ? and the Knicks aren't in the Clippers tier ... Watch for the Rockets to bounce the Knicks tonight and land them squarely on the bubble as the last team in at this juncture.

Charlotte vs Cleveland Irving is questionable tonight but Lebron will play which should be enough as the Lebrons are at home. Charlotte is jockeying with Boston for 3rd and every win counts as both Boston and Charlotte don't want to finish 4th and wind up on the Cleveland side of the playoff bracket. If Kyrie sits Walker will give the Hornets a chance but when you look at the other bench and number 23 is dressed and ready........

Love seeing The Bulls implode but they should blame their president/GM not their coach. With the way they finished last season and the way they constructed their roste , playing 500 ball was almost expected.

Touched on this earlier, but I hate the Bulls, so here's more.. Only 4 teams this century have had worse 3 pt% than the Bulls .304.

Larry Brown's 01-02 76ers went 43-39, the only one of those 4 with a winning record, Even though AI lead the league in scoring, their 102.1 ORTG was 23rd of 29 teams. AI shot 29.1% from 3, but still took 4.5 per game.

The other 3 were putrid teams. 00-01 GS 17-65, 02-03 Nuggets 17-65 and the 11-12 Bobcats 7-59. GS finished 2nd last in ORTG, the other 2 dead last.

If GarPax are discussing a coaching change, I wonder if the comment "Larry Brown - he's still alive, isn't he?" comes up at some point.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

This isn't all on Freddy by any means...The guys who should wear this are GarPax...
They let go a coach the players liked.
Kind of ran Noah out of town. Same for Pau and Rose.
I can understand walking away from guys near the end of their careers but they went out and brought in two more at the end of theirs with one of them being a world class arsehole in Rondo.
GarPax messed up on the rebuild that should have started last year.
Riensdorf might step up on GarPax as he is notoriously cheap and Freddy has 4 years to run on his deal.

So last night .. to paraphrase Denny Green... they played like we thought they would.

Tonight could see some standings movement as well..

Orlando vs Indy Pacers are at home and with a win can move into 8th on a precentage points basis and move the Knicks to 9th. Pacers playing better lately but the wild card is former coach Frank Vogel coming home to Indy after being unfairly and unceremoniously dumped by Larry Legend. Coin flip on this one but leaning to Indy.

Pistons vs Heat The Heat plainly suck. Dragic is breaking down under the load he has to carry and between him and Hassan and 13 guys named Moe they don't have enough. The Pistons are giving Stan heartburn similar to the days when he was living the Dwightmare. Still if the men from Motown are to begin to right the ship this is one they have to and should win. Battle of the boards tonight as Drummond faces up Whiteside.

San Antonio vs Hawks Hawks are hanging around and are a game over 500. Nothing to call home about but when everybody else your fighting with to make the dance is a game below 500 your doing..... lets say your doing "OK". I know DannyH is pulling for a Hawks loss so the dream of getting Milsap at the deadline stays alive and he likely keeps the dream alive as the best road team in the NBA methodically disposes of the Hawks tonight.

2 for 3... not bad.. not great...

Tonights lineup features a few intersting matchups.

OKC vs Bucks Russell vs the Alphabet. Might be the best game of the night. The Bucks have finally made 500 and this is a real test for them. They are at home and both Parker and Antekompnopo have been playing really well.. but Russell is a load to handle and he plays the same on the road as at home. Tough call but when in doubt take the home team.

Magic vs Knicks While a loss is not catastrophic for the Magicians it still widens the gap between where they sit and the 8th seed by another game. However as those incremental losses begin to accumulate suddenly your not withing hailing distance. So its important for the Magic and its a winnable game. The Knicks are currently in a tie for 8th and other than Phil calling out Melo for being a ball hog and his coach for not running his preferred 1980's offensive scheme things have remained surprisingly calm in Gotham. The Knicks are at home. The Magic despite Vogel aren't very good. Nod to the Knicks tonight.

Da Whiz vs Houston The Whizzers have pulled themselves up out of the bottom tier of the east and into the playoffs with a 500 record. However the Whiz suck on the road sporting a 3 and 9 record. That trend continues tonight as the Whiz charter into Houston to take on the Beard and friends. Houston wins and likely puts up 120 plus on the board.

Charlotte vs Da Bulls The Bulls are showing stress cracks all over. Rajon Rondo and his special brand of team building is now in full regale as he has been benched and was making noises about talking to GarPax about his future with the team. The old play me or trade me gambit. The sharks in the local press are circling around the bleeding Freddy Hoiberg making his seat one of the hotter ones in the NBA right now. Dwayne Wade is unhappy with the home crowds support and the prediction at the beginning of the year that nobody on this team could shoot still holds true 35 games in. Enter the Hornets to the United Centre who are a well coached cohesive defensive unit that don't want to finish 4th or 5th as thats Lebrons side of the playoff bracket. With a win the Hornets keep the Celtics within arms reach. Nod to the Hornets.

2 and 2... not bad .. not great either

The good news in Chicago where there isn't much good news is that Da Bulls are on a one game winning streak ! The bad news is that it took a heroic, best game of the year effort by Jimmy Butler to win that game. Next up .. Lebron

The Magic caught the Knicks napping last night and keep themselves within hailing distance.

The Bucks are showing that they are the one team you don't want to draw in round 1 of the playoffs with a good win over Russell and 14 other guys that Russell lets play with him.

The Whiz took the loss from Houston last night .. but tonight.....the get Dallas.
Whiz vs Dallas. Dallas is pretty bad. Dirk still suits up but father time has taken its toll. Harrison Barnes is living up to the faith that the Mavs put in him but its just not enough. The Whiz's backcourt overcomes the Mavs on the road tonight and Washington keeps themselves in the 6 to 8 range picture.

Pacers at Pistons The Pistons got the Lebrons without Lebron and stole one the other night stopping the bleeding. Caldwell Pope is a really good player and Drumond is the rebound machine. Paul George is sounding frustrated at the lack of wins and the short shrift he feels he is getting from the whistle but he is a pro and will get back to business. The wins over the Bulls and Magic have the Pacers feeling better about themselves. The Pacers aren't so good on the road and the Pistons need the win more. Nod to the home team in a close game.

Utah vs Boston The Leprechaun lovers are starting to get giddy now that the Celts have started to win a few. They are 7 and 3 in their last 10. Trouble is those 3 losses have come against PO teams...(OKC, Spurs, Lebrons). They have beat up the likes of the Heat, Knicks, Pacers but also handled the Grizz pretty easliy twice. Still the talk is about a trade to make them better. Utah rolls into town likely without the services of George Hill but with that big front line of Gobert, Favours and Hayward all ready to go. Utah plays top 10 defense and that will travel with them to Boston. Look for the Jazz to dominate on the glass and the length of Gobert to hold Thomas in check. Jazz win the second game of their road trip after a tune up in Brooklyn.

It's crazy that just 5 games separate #3 (Boston) from #12 (Detroit & Orlando tie for #11/#12), and they've all played 33-36 games, prior to today's games.

At the start of the season, the consensus seemed to be:
                    #1 - Cleveland
                    #2 - Toronto
                    #3-13 - everybody else
#14-15 - oh right, Philly and Brooklyn have NBA teams too

Miami is really the only 'surprise' so far, in that they've fallen into the group of EC bottom feeders.

It would be so satisfying to watch Miami, Chicago, NY and the Clippers all miss the playoffs. Big markets, big money, and a 1st round pick for the Raptors! hahaha

Right, I forgot about that. We want them to be the 8th seed in the WC, with the 15th overall pick!

O for 3... pretty pathetic.. consistent though with the Raps performance in San Antonio last evening.

Tonight time to get off the schneid

OKC vs Charlotte Charlotte coughed one up against the Bulls the last time out and with Boston playing well can't afford to let this one slip. Russell and 14 guys named Moe he lets play with him lost to the Bucks last time out. The Thunder are 6 and 4 in their last 10 but Charlotte really could use the win against a quality team. Nod to the home team who play well at home.

Hawks into Disneyland The Millsap watch is on .. at least in Toronto and its epicentre RR. The Hawks are in the thick of the playoff race and the Magicians are trying their best to stay close to the last seed. They have to leap over the Knicks/Bulls/Whiz and Pacers to get there. So yeah they are completely within their rights to be optimistic about getting to the playoffs. Dwight n Paul take on Serge and Biz and Vuc... pretty even. Elfrid Payton vs Dennis Shroeder... edge to the Hawks... Close one... the Magicians come second in this one.

Bucks in the Mecca Parker and the Alphabet take on the Zinger and Melo... in the Mecca...Spike Lee is courtside. The Bucks are playing well lately and the Knicks are not with a not so good 2 and 8 in the last 10. A loss here will put more blood in the New York Media's waters. They love it. Bucks with a win start to solidify their spot in the 6 to 8 range and the Knicks start to hide in the training room as the questions from the press begin on whats wrong.

Da Bulls visit Lebron Jalen Roses second best team in the east is on one game winning streak as the Bulls pay a visit to Cleveland. Lebron still likely remembers losing to this rag tag band of can't shoot straight collection of mediocrity a few weeks ago when he had to wear a cubs uniform and tank the game as part of a bet with DWWAYYYYYYYYYNE WAAAAAAADE. Tonight .Lebron and Love and a cobbled together lineup are still better than the sinking Bulls... Look for Lebron to even the season series with a win over the geriatric Wade and the sullen Rondo and the one man show that is Jimmy Butler..By the way... Freddy Hoibergs deal is a guarnteed 5 year 25M dollar deal. Nice work Freddy. Watch for the Jimmy BUtler to Boston rumours start to pick up speed as the stark realization begins to set in that the Bulls are NOT a playoff team and don't have much in the way of youngish long term talent to grow with.

I have no clue where else to post this, but Jae Crowder whining about Gordon Hayward having fans in Boston is the funniest thing I've seen so far this year

He's an emotional guy and just heard his hometown fans cheering for a FA-to-be who plays his position, he took it personally. He played a good game in response, maybe the ACC needs to start cheering for opposing SF's too At times like this you realize how young some of these guys are.

Also Boston related, a few around here have enjoyed mocking all the "Brad Stevens love" on this forum after seeing Boston get off to a slow start. Never mind the fact that they were incorporating a new core player and had key injuries to start the year, but they've clearly turned a corner and are hot on the Raptors' heels. While we've been dreaming of the #1 seed, there's an equally good chance the Raps will be #3 by the end of the year. Either way, I wouldn't mind a Celtics/Raptors round #2.
