So for those posters who were advocating for not bringing any of the Toronto free agents back and tanking - you lose on that opportunity to acquire more assets down the road from a team desperate to take a run at the playoffs/championship (in addition to potentially hindering the ability of younger players to develop by putting them in positions to fail too soon, diminishing revenue of the team by putting an inferior product on the floor etc) It's unlikely that a deal of such colossal stupidity will happen again, but there's a clear history of teams overpaying for players at the deadline / during the offseason if they think there's a chance to advance in the playoffs.
Just imagine the chaos of transactions from Eastern Conference teams next year if LeBron decides to 'take his talents to LA'
