  • Time to unleash the Heslip?

Brady Heslip is shooting 43% from 3pt with the 905 this season. He is only 6'2 and would be a downgrade, playmaking-wise at the PG position for the Raptors. But the guy can shoot the damn ball and that is something the Raptors need. If Raptors plays are breaking down to last second desperation 3s from DeRozan, then why not at least have broken down last second desperation 3s from Heslip instead?

Who do you waive to make room for him?

Also, no thanks. Seriously doubt he would help at all. Heck, Van Vleet is a comparable player (good shooter, too small and actually probably a better defender and playmaker than Heslip) and he's not helping...

People always think that this player will save us, or maybe that player will save our ass. So sorry to say that, there was one major mistake Massai made with us : Signing Casey last year.

Heslip will be a mini Kapono, if you want a Kapono player, that means you need two HoF and a borderline All-star to get attention away from Heslip. Heslip will be eaten alive by NBA Athleticism

I barely remember anymore, can someone remind me why Kapono didn't pan out for the Raptors? He was a decent 3-pt shooter before coming to the Raptors, then I remember he became utter crap.

Jack was quite the ass on that one. We aint cutting Bruno at this point in the project, and we aint cutting Lowry 2.0 in FVV. So, no.

Here's what i don't understand about players like Heslip and Fredette - why are these guys not on an NBA roster? you can talk about their weaknesses all you want but these guys are ELITE shooters.

Give them a chance, if not a backup PG then as a 3rd string PG or just as a specialist. What are you going to lose? Look at Seth Curry, he's another one in that Heslip/Fredette category. Mavs FINALLY gave him a chance and he's flourishing in Dallas.

I mean, i'd rather have guys like Curry or Heslip as my 3rd string PG over guys like Dwight Buycks or Stone. Remember them? Hell, i'd rather have Heslip as my 15th man over Bruno Caboclo. Caboclo is just a WASTE of a roster spot. Dude doesn't have an NBA skill. Why is he still here?

Another thing - i was just reading an article about Fredette the other day. He's averaging 37ppg in China. I read alot of NBA teams are interested in signing him now.

My only question is this: what change? everyone knew he's a GREAT shooter, an ELITE shooter. Him averaging 37ppg in China isn't really that surprising.

Teams don't want Jimmer because he has a giant ego and wants the offense run through him wherever he goes. Problem is that he isn't good enough to warrant the offense running through him. Not to mention he's a horrible defender.

Couldn't dribble or play D. He still shot 44.7% from three for us over two seasons. But a guy who does only one thing like shooting 3s while being a negative on D is a luxury for a contender, not someone you can keep as a regular part of your rotation.

Heslip would be very situational. He would be similar to a reverse biyombo. Except that in my opinion Bizmack was good at more than just one thing. He was good as a rebounder, rim protector, and as a lateral defender who could switch and read plays. Unfortunately he couldn't contribute consistently offensively. He is a great back up but long term it would be playing 4 on five on offence.

Heslip is good at one thing. Shooting. He needs to add at least one other skill at a NBA level in order to make it in this league. He needs to get a little bigger. He needs to improve on his defence or be able to be so good on offence outside of the 3 that he can contribute in other ways than just being a spot up.
