With the first round wrapping up and the East going chalk as expected, the West is mired in an unpredictable shoot out where no seed is safe. It seems that the conference gap is going to continue to widen as four of the top five East teams face uncertain summers and even the Wests bottom dwellers have promising futures.
We are likely hearing the death rattle of the Celtics, the 76ers could implode any day now, the Nets are a John Wall away from being competitive and the Knicks are naively hoping they hold the golden ticket to the Lebron lottery. My point is that barring a monumental shift in personnel the Titantic division is back and the raptors should take notice.
Should this affect Bosh's decision to stay? Why go to the West where favorites becomes underdogs and title favorites are challenged by upstarts. The best chance to win a championship is stay in the East and unless Bosh goes to the Bulls or Heat, he likely won't be closer to a title than he is already, which still isn't that close.
I don't think Riley even wants Bosh, they have a cheap PF who can give you 70% of Bosh for 10% of the price. They need a defensive center and a point guard and Riley is as smart and cut throat a GM as there is in this league.
That leaves the Bulls who actually make too much sense for Bosh. He is the exact player they have been searching for since Jordan left. He fits into their roster perfectly and they would immediately become contenders for Lebron's future crown.
Staying in Toronto actually makes a lot of sense for Bosh if the Bulls sign Boozer, Amare or decide to go in another direction. The team will likely win their division, be vastly improved from last year, resigning allows him to avoid uprooting and abandoning his friends and teammates and maybe most importantly he gets to continue in his vainglorious quest to be the man.
With Bosh as the man, the raptors likely have a second round ceiling, but that seems more entertaining than the alternative. I don't think Bosh wants to leave, but BC signing Turk and overextending Jose haven't left him much of a choice. BC has two months and a draft to improve this team. He brought in nine new players last year and will likely scale down his renovation this year, but he needs to add a name to assuage Bosh and a couple Weems/Johnson's to actually improve the team. Exchanging a couple Euro's for American dollars wouldn't hurt either.
The media and fans have perpetuated this doom and gloom state of the franchise, but if Bosh resigns and BC keeps tinkering the raptors will go into next season with thier best team of the Bosh era and not just because BC said so.
