  • Our lack of a 3/big-wing defender is a serious problem.

People want to overlook it and say Powell can guard them, but the reality is it is a huge issue. We don't have a single player on the team who can play top of the line defense at the 3 position. Miles is an average at best defender, Powell is an above average defender but undersized significantly for the 3 (before you go "wingspan" Powell is roughly the same size as John Wall, would you want him guarding small forwards?). DeRozan's a below average defender and won't guard the best player on the other team anyway.

It's going to be a problem in the east. Yeah you can't stop LeBron, but you can at least make it somewhat difficult for him with a good defender and we can't even do that. There's Hayward in Boston to deal with as well and also Giannis on the Bucks. Other than the Wizards, those are the 3 teams in the east that are going to cause us the biggest problems, but there's even some other guys like Batum that might be problematic as well (I think Charlotte is going to be quite good this year, that Dwight pickup was an underrated one).

That's not even to mention the west where there are several of these guys that we're simply going to get bullied by in their one on one matchups, and it's not like we have an elite team defense with DeMar starting on the other wing and JV's below average defense inside. Durant, Kawhi, Butler, George, etc... who are we supposed to put on these guys?

Granted this likely shouldn't prevent us from being a high 40s to mid-50s win team like we've been the last few years, but it will be a problem in the playoffs where most of the top contenders have a player who we simply don't have an answer for. And while Washington doesn't really have an elite scoring three, they do have the John Wall problem which is a whole different issue to deal with since Lowry isn't particularly great defensively anymore either.

I think OG is supposed take on that role. Supposedly his defence is NBA ready but he'll have to work on his 3 as long as we have a guy working towards that role I'm okay with it. We didn't have one until we got Tucker.

I think it going to be 3 guys that are going to handle that role mostly.... Bruno, OG & Siakam. Not to mention the guys on the two-way deals we have as well.... we haven't seen how they play yet.

We won't hear back from him. He dissapears into thin air and reappears when you least expect it. Ten is an enigma. Ten is a legend. Ten for the motherfucking win.

Until then, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and they most often stink

The backup 3 is an interesting spot in the rotation. We've got Bruno, OG, and Siakam, but people forget we've also got McKinnie and Miller.

One of those guys will step up on different nights for the 15-20 minutes they're needed. We've actually got a ton of athletic length.

When it comes to defending LBJ, you need a big wing, a mobile PF, and a PG that can slow him down on switches and pray for held defence.

If it was as simple as one style of player (member that was PJ) then LBJ would not of made the finals like every year.

Out scoring the Cavs is the only way to beat them. And outside of KD, their isn't a lot of players that LBJ or TT cant contain 1 on 1.

OG Anunoby is not going to play in his rookie year. I'm not even sure if he's not a bust yet.

Raptors know about their weaknesses. They can't do anything about it though. That's why they signed Malcolm Miller and Alfonzo McKinnie. Those 2 and Bruno is their only hope on having a large 3 to deal with anybody. Otherwise there's no other solutions at the moment. Anyways this season is more about developing youth anyway.

The fact of the matter is that Powell, if he can take that next step forward, gives you near star level impact and that's what wins games in this league - star-level production. A little size mismatch isn't going to get in the way with that, especially when you've got rangy roleplayers that can give you defensive length at a moments notice.

Bruno's name shouldn't be in this convo.
