  • Same Predicament, Different Reaction?

If im not mistaken, last season, the Raps were pretty much in the same predicament as they are now, and there was a lot of chatter from the players saying how everybody is not in the same page, not communicating, etc etc. And then they decide to do a players only meeting which actually turned the season around and they started getting wins.

This season, same predicament but no chatter. No players only meeting.

Have the players also accepted the fact the this is actually a losing season for the Raps?

    Any thoughts?

"Have the players also accepted the fact the this is actually a losing season for the Raps?"

If they did not know already its not a very perceptive bunch...or they were spending too much time on the YGz website. Ultimately its their job to work as hard as they can each night they play. The most disappointing thing for me last night was for the first time I noticed they did not do so for bigger stretches. There was no real excuse for this since they had some rest time in between games. I am still trying to figure out if the team has sustainable talent...which is what this season is about...evaluating. If Bargs is still playing like this (spotty at best) come Christmas we should send Eric Smith on a mission to the 29 other cities.

Right now I feel that the players are not trying as hard as they possibly can. There are multiple times during a game I see a rebound which could be easily grabbed (a.k.a. Bargs in the previous game), or a mediocre player blowing by one of our defenders.

These are all effort plays, and right now the raptors are playing with no effort as all. We saw what they can do if they play with a little heart in the game against Orlando; and it is understandable for the coaching staff and us as fans to be frustrated because we know what they are possible of.

It may have something to do with the rotation as well, maybe theyre frustrated with Triano.

Everyone seems to be on the same page this year. Everyone has pretty clearly defined roles and there aren't any prima-donnas on the team. Last year we had some serious tension brewing in the locker room - kind of euro against USA. This doesn't seem to be the case this year. Last year expectations were for 50 wins. This year it is for half that much.

The goalpost are different. We knew they would improve and assumed they would make it to the playoffs. Now we assume that they'll lose but want to see improvement from our players. And even though the Raps barely have started the season, we demand to see more improvement!

Yeah, really not the same situation at all. Much more cohesive team but with no proven talent and no expectations. Last year they had to "turn things around" because they were theoretically much better than they were showing. This year, the team is young, raw, and looking to learn how to play at the highest level.
