if you were BC, how would you go about convincing an elite player to come play for toronto?
Win the lottery, draft H. Barnes, clear $40 million in cap space, bring in a post defender like Kendrick Porkins to add to the garbage men that are already here (Amir Johnson, Ed Davis). That would leave promising young players (Weems, Barnes, Davis et al.) and a star wouldn't need to do the dirty work to win. There's lots of garbage men and specialists around for that. Other than those things, throw a lot of money at the stars. They like money.

    • Hmmm wonder if the Raps could flip Stojakovic for somebody like Iguodala... sounds like Philly wants cap relief and maybe we throw in Miami's 1st rounder? Just thinking aloud here, about overpaid players teams want to unload...

Ya don't just "win the lottery" though... They got those little ping pong balls that determine who wins, it doesn't just go by finishing last... ie. '03 we should've had #3 and Carmelo, but Detoit jumped all the way up to the two spot and knocked us down a pick.

        • Not that I don't like Barnes but I hope we don't draft him. We really need a PG more then another SF.

            That's loser talk. Win it.

            • New Orleans loves Bryan Colangelo!!

Wow, we seem pretty determined to make New Orleans a better team.

Are we trying to worsen our record this year? Bayless is half decent but he's definitely not as good as Jack.

Did Jack demand to be traded?

I don't think Jack is the type of player they'd demand to be traded, especially in him contract year.

                • Put me also in the camp that thinks this is a prelude to something bigger. At least, that's what i hope. I also don't see Peja playing a lick. Too much backlog at the 2/3.

Not sad at all to see Jack go. Don't like his game all that much. Contrarily, I think it might enhance Derozan and Weems' development. It's good to have a mentor, but not if that mentor is not mentally tough. He sulks way too much and is too selfish of a PG for my tastes. Might help them mature faster, become leaders in their own right. We'll see.

Don't know what's gonna happen though at the backup 5 spot. Raps are gonna be seriously undersized unless they recall Alabi, or another trade is in the works.

Can we also put to rest Melo talks? It's just madness, people. Not gonna happen.

So, why should we take on other team's "overpaid" player/s?

Philly paid him as a franchise player. Is he? They have decided now that obviously he is not. With the possibility of salary contraction coming soon, it is they who would have to sweeten the pot to get rid of him. Nice player but a cap buster.

Pretty sure Jack isn't in contract year.

                      • I hope Devlin calls a Stojakovic shot a 'Punjabi' again.

                        I really really really hope.

hmm. You're right, either way he's not a player that'd ask to be traded.

                          • "According to Chris Sheridan of ESPN.com, the Raptors and New Orleans Hornets have agreed in PRINCIPLE to a five-player trade that would see Peja Stojakovic and Jerryd Bayless shipped to Toronto for Jarrett Jack, David Andersen and Marcus Banks."

""The trade is not official. It is all speculation at the moment," Raptors director of media relations Jim LaBumbard said in an e-mail to The Sports Network.

The deal will actually be listed as a pair of seperate trades, because under NBA rules, Bayless could not be included in a multiplayer deal for at least 60 days, since he was acquired from the Trail Blazers on Oct. 23. But league rules allow an acquired player to be traded immediately in a one-for-one deal."
