  • Can the Raptors play .600 ball for the rest of the season?

The Raptors are currently at 16 and 17 after their fifth win at home tonight. If they were to play at .600 the rest of the way they would end up winning 29.4 games out of 49. With 29 wins the Raptors would end up with 45 wins. I truly believe that if they want to be successful in the playoffs this year three things need to happen:

    1. Come up with the 4th seed in the conference. Will 45 wins be enough to accomplish this? Probably not.... They will need between 52 and 48 wins. This would mean playing at .734 winning percentage the rest of the way - again not likely

    2. Either match up against Miami or Atlanta. I think if the Raptors can continue to play at the .600 level they could beat either team on any given night

    3. Acquire a dependable, high scorer that would come of the bench and can also help with rebounding.

If the trend in the Eastern Conference goes it will be 4 way race for top spot with the Cavs, Magic, Celtics, and Hawks (yes I think they can move into the top 3 spot in the east). After these 4 teams the 5-8 spot would probably be between Miami, TO, Detroit, Chicago, Indiana, Milwaukee, Charlotte, and Washington. The 5th spot is where we wanna be if we want a chance to advance to the second round.

With how weak the East looks this year I think we have good chance of getting the spot, still we have to beat all the teams were better and be .500 against the teams better than us (record-wise).

Exactly. In no way do we want the Hawks in the playoffs. The most ideal situation is going up against an injured/beat-up Celtics team, and even that would be tough.

As constructed, the Raps can play better than .600 ball to closeout the season AND they'll still be first round fodder no matter who they play.

If the Raps want to advance in the playoffs, they need to add another starting quality player. (Doesn't have to start on the Raps) Which will likely put them well into luxury tax territory!

Solid rumours that David West could become available for expiring deals - Will MLSE let Colangelo go over the luxury tax cap to get him?
Having a 2-time all-star to play with Bosh & Bargs would be a scary good line-up.

David West is not going to be available for expiring deals.

Even if New Orleans was willing to accept that type of package ... they'd end up receiving offers from a dozen teams who'll end up having to add another asset to separate themselves from the pack. So it'll be an expiring + prospects/picks trade package and that's only if New Orleans is as desperate as everyone in the media thinks they are.

            Those rumours are nonsensical.

Of course that's why they are rumours! lol
No one will know for sure until after it happens.

And Pau Gasol for a bag of balls and an unsigned pick made sense too! The good deals are made for bad reasons.

I think everyone is getting a little too excited about this recent win streak, just like they got too excited about the poor start to the season. I want to see them get some wins against some tough teams. When that happens we'll know if they're good enough to slip into the top 5 in the east and stay there.

if raptors can finish at the #5 spot .. that would give them a possible match up with atlanta ..best chance they have ..
