I think you have Montreal confused with Thailand, although Montreal is a great party city. I recommend supersex (rippers) to those who have never been.
nah man... i wasnt even talking about peelers there... in fact, i've explicity been told by a stripper in supersex, that if i want REAL action in a strip club i should go to Brampton.. lol.. (which, i may or may not be able to confirm that it's totally true)

the nightlife in montreal is awesome.... very reminiscent of how toronto was right around 2000... before all the clubs started shutting down

i do maintain that toronto has the best party scene in the country, without equal... but its just different in montreal... different enough to make a weekend there amazing

btw, thailand is unnescessary... just go to guadalajara mexico... MUCH cheaper... just as scandalous.

In Obama's defense on the bank bailing, it was Bush that started the process. Obama didn't have much choice in the matter.
Explain to me why he had no choice because that doesn't make any sense at all to me. Obama came out with a separate plan where he would simply force the American people to give the banks trillions.

i love that there is simultaneously an intellingent political discussion, and a montreal strip club discussion going on at the same time, in the same thread.

It was under Bush's watch that the government agreed to bail out the banks. It was simply under Obama where they gave out the money.

Where did this word "peelers" come from. I'd never heard of it until I moved out to Vancouver, and figured it was a Vancouver thing. But I assume you don't live out here.

                  nah.. im in toronto.

it's a pretty common name for them actually.. even in the UK they're called peelers

we also call them "rippers" though... i have NO clue where that name came from

No, under Bush's watch they invested in the banks(purchased toxic debt) to boost them but elected not to have any control to keep the disconnect from "socialism".

Under Obama's watch came the "bailouts". Obama told the Fed to print the money to give to the big incompetent, irresponsible banks. The Fed printed the money, "loaned" it to the American government, gave it to these banks and charged America interest on their own money. Obama could have chose not to give these banks the money. He could also choose to take down the Fed but he's not brave enough to take on the Bankers. His government has already shot down multiple bills that would allow congress to even audit the Fed.

                    This says it all:

"To expose a 15 Trillion dollar ripoff of the American people by the stockholders of the 1000 largest corporations over the last 100 years will be a tall order of business." -- Buckminster Fuller

I'm not sure about that timeline. As far as I remember, that big bailout was agreed before Bush left office, but given out once Obama took office. I'm not saying that Obama has done a great job, and I agree he's neglected to do really anything positive, in that regard, but I don't envy the guy. I think he quickly realized just how powerless that position is.

Obama issued a bunch of bailouts under his own plan.

pesterm1, im not from mtl but im from the province of Quebec. You gotta understand that now everybody speaks english in Montreal. French people are now a minority in this city!
Uh, no they are not. Maybe in Mo West or NDG or the West Island but Overall Anglos are a minority.

                          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Montreal

Besides that I was raised in Montreal and am back there 3-4 times a year every year. I have family, friends and colleagues who live there as well. French people are not a minority by any stretch of the imagination.

As for selling out HS BBall tourneys, so what? Québec will support their own with their last dollar but when it comes to pro sports they can be incredibly fickle. Read up on the Nordiques, Expos and the Als (before they came home). I mean if the Nords couldn't make it, despite the insane level of amateur and minor league Hockey in Qc, basketball doesn't stand a chance. Hell, just look at attendance for a Matrix game. No one cares. It's a pipe dream that I wish could become reality but it likely never will.

Toronto is a way better party city than Montreal.

Montreal has like what? 4 crappy nightclubs.

Anyway, if baseball couldn't survive in Montreal, I really doubt basketball would.

None of you people know a thing about the economics of basketball.

Clearly if the league is talking about contraction, a Montreal NBA team would be a terrible idea.

Not that I don't agree with the gist of this comment, it's a bit dizzying how many things are wrong with it.

And I for one, am going to try and quash some of these ridiculous claims.
                                Starting with...

                                1) Montreal is rated #3 Party City in NORTH AMERICA behind Las Vegas and New York. Source

                                And #1 in Canada.

Here they have it ranked #2 in THE WHOLE WORLD.

So hopefully that puts that one to rest REALLY quickly.

                                2) Club 1234, 7 Night, Loft Club, Circus, Radio Lounge, SuperSex, Light Ultra.
There's 7 clubs that I have been too, and can confirm they are SICK.

                                3) Baseball couldn't 'survive' in Montreal because their Management was Hell Bent on ruining the Team for the last decade of their existence. Has nothing to do with the VERY LOYAL Expo Fanbase.

                                4) NONE OF US understand the Economics of Basketball?
                                Ahem....
                                Sorry....
                                HUH?
A city that would have the 4th largest Metro Population in the NBA, the LARGEST Capacity Arena in the NBA, AND one of the MOST LOYAL, and feverish fanbases in all of Sports.
Economics don't seem to really be the factor keeping it from happening. If it were SOLELY up to economics, the NBA would have moved there already.

I think I covered everything here.
Now I will repeat my earlier point, that I DO NOT THINK THIS WILL HAPPEN.
But I do think Montreal COULD support a team.
