  • UFC: 128 Jon "Bones" Jones or Mauricio "Shogun" Rua? Who is the next LHW Champion?

Who wins the main event bout of this Saturday's UFC event in New Jersey. I take Jon Jones, because hes such a good student of the art. He studies his opponents to the tee, and has the takedown defense GSP and the reach of John Wall. But then again Shogun is a beast, has knockout power and is very patient and opportunistic.
If Shogun wins I wont be surprised if he won by submission, I believe that Jon Jones will either lose by submission or decision. But if Jones wins I have a big feeling he will pull off something spectacular and defend his title a couple times, though if he loses I wouldn't mind to see him fight another up-and-comer aka Phil Davis because they virtually have the same skill set and that would be a perfect headliner if he lost and was on his way back in contention. Rashad is next up to fight the winner and if Jones wins , it will be a fight of friends, and training partners for championship .
Either way it happens, I want Jones to win and to at least defend his title until 2012 and it would be the start of a new era , The Bones Era.

i love jones.... there's nothing about the kid not to like... great personality... exciting fighter... constantly improving.. great story... BUT, Shogun is a monster

jones has a chance if he can capitalize on his wrestling... if he gets it on the ground, he turns people's faces into lean ground beef... ask vera

looking forward to the faber-wineland fight too... cant stand faber... he should win, but wineland COULD also lay down a hard beating on him

schaub - cro cop is pretty intriguing too... one guy on the rise in the ranks, one guy on the demise.. should be a fun fight

Bones has some amazing moves, but shogun is a pro. In pride he took out rampage, big nog, and like 3 other top guys in like 1 mth.

Mind you, ring rust is a factor. Shoguns been out for 10 mths due to constant injuries with his knees. His ring awareness and experience should negate the "surprise" factor of some of Bones' spinning elbows, etc.

I would like to see Bones lose, I think ultimately, it will help him.

If Bones can land some clean elbows ground and pound he will become the > in Bruce Buffer's voice (neeeew light heavyweight Champiionnn of the Worrrrld), oh yea and Vera's face was broken in 3 places with one clean elbow , he messed up Hamill's face with some 6-12 elbows which was a controversial ref move, but then again the ref was the worst ref ever said by Dana , Steve Mazzagatti. And plus I bet the homies 50 bucks each that Jones wins by ground and pound KO 2nd round ,thats 500 bucks.
This is the ultimate test for Bones and he is ready, he knows what Shogun does and will capitalize on every opportunity given to him, if he sees a chance of a takedown he will do it and ground and pound and done. The Shogun fight with Lyoto was Shogun'f fight from the start, Machida is a one dimensional elusive fighter who lost before he went in the octogon.

Jon Bones Jones is a beast of a man, a man amongst boys, a champion amongst contenders. He dismantled Shogun and just as I predicted by ground and pound, clean knees and KO. Man i just won alot of money off this man .

jones is a monster.. he dismantled literally THE BEST fighter in the division. i'd be shocked if jones doesnt have an anderson silva type title run... there were moments of that fight he actually reminded me of silva... in his stance.. and with his kicks

            i hate urijah faber

The guy just topped the world rankings in a matter of weeks, this guy will be the new dominating LHW in UFC history after Tito Ortiz, I predict about 6-10 title defenses.

i cant think of anyone in the LHW division i'd bet on against him right now... he's dominated elite strikers... he's dominated elite wrestlers.. a jits guy, maybe? he's got the perfect long ass limbs to target for submissions.. but there's not exactly alot of elite jits guys in the LHW division.. thiago silva, maybe..

Hey man , shogun tried to get his leg but it was too long.

shogun is a decent jujitsu guy, but he's far from an elite submission artist.. i'm thinking it'll take somebody along the lines of aoki, or jacare... but the LHW division is really pretty void of any real submission specialists..

basically i'm saying if jones doesnt start challenging silva's title defense record, i'll be shocked

I think it makes a lot more sense for Jones to fight Anderson Silva in a "SuperFight"(should one happen that is), rather than have GSP move up to middleweight. Silva has fought at LHW already, and man, wouldn't that be a great fight?

I think Silva might kill GSP if that fight happens, just due to the size factor. Some say Jones may kill Silva though, due to his superior ground game, tremendous power, and reach advantage(Jones 84.5", Silva 77.6").

What fight would you guys rather see if one were to happen?

i think its way too early to be talking about superfights with bones

i wanna see him clean out the division first... rashad, rampage, griffin, etc..

hopefully phil davis makes some noise.. that matchup has me salivating

I rather see Silva vs Bones because that would be epic, it would draw the most money in UFC history. In the case of GSP vs Silva that would be epic as well, and plus they will probably do the big GSP fights in Canada and hopefully when NY bill gets passed MSG will be the big arena for Jones, because nothing draws money like homecourt advantages.

money aside, GSP - Sliva makes a ton more sense.. those two have literally OWNED their respective divisions... besides a couple minor footnotes (gsp losing to serra, and silva getting dominated by sonnen before the hail mary submission), they're the best fighters their divisions have EVER seen and their legacies are still going simultaneously..

jones just doesnt have the pedigree yet... you don't superfight or catchweight unless it really means something, or you're really desperate... at this point, neither applies to jones

by the time jones does have the credentials to warrant a superfight, i think there's an even BETTER matchup for him to be made than silva..

                              jon jones vs cain velasquez..

                              that would be epic.
