  • Myck Kabongo Next Year Instead??

If we are not planning on winning anything and most if not all of us would like to see a Canadian in a Raptors uniform, how about we take a pass on a guard this year and take Myck next year? Use this weak(er) draft to get a couple young defensive prospects and get Myck, who should be a solid guard, next year.

I don't think you can set your gameplan around a guy who won't declare for the draft until next year this time.

I would love Myck on this team, but to add to Apollo's point, one of the likely changes to the new CBA will once again be an age limit change which would make Kabongo (and 8 or so other projected lottery picks next year) ineligible, and therefore not an option until at least 2013. That's a little long to wait to bring in a newbie PG in a rebuild.

Pick whoever we think will be the best player in three years out of this draft, and do the same next draft. Yes, it would be a good story to have a Canadian on the team, but not if it means we don't pick the BPA.

There is talk the league wants to bump the age minimum to 20 for the draft. That means next year's sophomores will be ineligible. Luckily Barnes will be eligible.

2006 all over again - possibly.

The gameplan next year is Harrison Barnes. We're not gonna miss out on him this time.

              That would be nice.

Supposedly he went to CP3's PG camp to work on his handle - not to play PG though but because of his turnovers. I love hearing that. The guy is a worker, he realizes his weaknesses and is working to improve them.

In retrospect how happy are we all that he stayed in school another year?

You can't just say "we'll take this guy next year." How do you know where we'll draft, how good he'll be, whether he declares or if we even have a pick at all? Just sayin..

Don't be bringing that reality-based, fantasy-killing, rationally-thought talk around here

If Barnes had stayed in the draft he wouldn't have been around at #5. One of the International bigs probably would have fallen to accommodate it.

Next year's draft class is going to be savagely good with Sullinger Barnes and Perry Jones added to the incoming class of players like Austin Rivers, Myck Kabongo, anthony davis, james mcadoo, jeremy lamb ... etc, etc.

I'm sure Colangelo's "plan" involves winning some games this year, but it wouldn't be bad to give the young players tons of minutes: Ed, #5 pick, DeMar, James Johnson, 2nd lottery pick? ... and then add the final piece next year in the draft, and spend some FA dollars next year as well!

Over the next few years we should see a good number of Canadians making the NBA. We have Thompson and Joseph this year, I spoke with Leo last weekend and he said Corey will be drafted, he could be wrong, but he seemed confidant. Then we have players like Andrew Nicholson, Rob Sacre, Kelly Olynyk, and Kris Joseph in that all have potential to make the NBA. After that group we have the new guys coming in 2011 to the NCAA like Myck, Khem Birch, Kyle Wiltjer, Kevin Pangos, and Kevin Thomas. We all know about some of the other young guns like Wiggins that will be pushing for a spot in the league in a few years. Give it some time and we will see a Canadian on the Raptors.
