SI Top 100 NBA PLAYERS: Notable omissions
Jonas Valanciunas, Toronto Raptors (C, 21)
2012-13 stats: 23.9 MPG, 8.9 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 1.3 BPG, 55.7 FG%
2012-13 advanced stats: 15.6 PER, 3.9 Win Shares, -1.3 RAPM
Valanciunas would be locked into a top-100 spot if our list considered future seasons, but in his current form he barely missed the cut. All the same, there’s much to like in his growing game, and it’s possible that the second-year center (and reigning Summer League MVP) could improve quickly enough to make this omission glaring in retrospect. — RM

Their offence and defence is crazy.

Bizarro stat of the day for Spain: Marc Gasol had a relatively quiet game; 7 points (3/6 shooting, 1/2 FT) and 5 boards. But he was a ridiculous (and team-best) +40 in 22 minutes.
Against Italy 2 days ago, he went off for 32 and 10 on 11/19 (58%) shooting, drew 11 fouls, and went 9/12 from the line....and was a team-worst -19 in his 37 minutes.
Just goes to show how useful +/- stats are.
