  • Wilson Chandler signs 5 year 37 million dollar contract w/ Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets have agreed to terms with Wilson Chandler, according to the Denver Post's Benjamin Hochman.
The deal is reportedly worth $37 million over five years (including this year). He will be available as soon as Monday when the Nuggets host the Mavericks. Chandler averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 21 games last season with the Nuggets, but will have to compete with Danilo Gallinari, Corey Brewer and Rudy Fernandez for playing time. Although he could struggle initially while getting back into the flow of things, those numbers are more than attainable. Chandler isn't a must-add, but is worth a look if you have space on your roster. Mar 18 - 6:03 PM

He gets paid in full this year.

This is more like 4 years + 21 games for $37M.

I am still a bit mystified at this signing because of players who duplicate Chandler's skills on the Nuggets (Gallo, Affalo, Fernandez). That is starters money. But then I read the following link about the oddness of the Nene trade and the possibility that the Nuggets maybe doing it again! It's a good and likely analysis...

I would expect the Nuggets to have no trouble moving Wilson Chandler as soon as he is eligible to be traded. It's a reasonable contract - almost exactly what I predicted in post 39 http://raptorsrepublic.com/forums/sh...it-(473)/page2 - and he's good enough to be a starter in this league.

I would expect the Raptors to show a strong interest, especially if they believe they cannot make a strong play for Nicolas Batum.

          From Wilson Chandler's perspective, sure.

From a trade suitor's perspective, this is a 5-year contract but only the last 4 years of the contract is of interest to them. They could not care less how much Wilson Chandler is getting paid this year.

I believe Wilson Chandler will be traded in the off-season.

My own thinking of his worth (at the time he was being discussed for TO) was 6-7/. If we are to follow the Nene signing mo then Chandler was at a reasonable to slightly overpaid rate not unlike Nene's contract which was probably at a higher premium. Nene of course is a centre and they are in short supply. Denver as well may have a good bead on TO's thinking on his worth so the notion of some deal here is not inconceivable. As in Nene's case they are just protecting an asset rather than getting zilch for it. Prudent asset management I think and kudos to Ujiri....wonder where he learned those skills?!!

If we draft Harrison Barnes, MKG or Quincy Miller than there is really not point in trading for a SF.
