  • Amir Johnson+Gary Forbes for JJ Redick and a future 2nd round pick?

Since it's more and more likely that Amir Johnson gets traded this summer, why not start speculating about some trade options?.. Here's one I would really like. Look at what could be our 10 man rotation without any trades:

    Valanciunas/Gray
    Bargnani/Davis
    Barnes/Johnson
    DeRozan/Forbes
    Calderon/Bayless

As much as I like Forbes, the weakest position on this roster would clearly be the number 2 spot. We could improve it significantly by trading Amir and Gary to Orlando for JJ Redick and a 2nd round pick.

Why Toronto would do it: JJ Redick is one of the best shooters in this league and he's a true shooting guard. Also, he has playoffs experience. He would bring a lot to the team. Definitely a best overall player than Forbes. By trading Amir Johnson away, it erases the PF logjam and gives Ed Davis and other forwards and centers that deserves to be on the floor more playing opportunities. If possible, getting a 2nd round pick can't be a negative thing.

Why Orlando would do it: By adding Amir and Forbes, Orlando is getting younger, without loosing that much talent. Johnson would bring much needed help inside behind Dwight. As for Forbes, he has a lot of potential as a shooter, plus he can be a really good defender. This team needs to change things a little bit if they want to succeed, anyway.

What do you guys think about that one? Oh, let's see the new roster:
    Valanciunas/Gray/Magloire
    Bargnani/Davis/Rookie
    Barnes/Johnson/Kleiza
    DeRozan/Redick/Anderson
    Calderon/Bayless/Rookie

i like it but no more second rounders. Unless we package all 3 to a team like the suns who are going to rebuilding over the summer.

Sorry in my head this new pick was for a future draft. So yeah it's Amir+Forbes for Redick and a future 2nd round pick. Would you still do it without receiving the pick?

imo, I don't believe substituting Amir for Reddick would make this team any better. Redick is pretty defensively deficient.

+1 Especially comparing the level of Amir's defense, and even Forbes' potential to be a good scorer. Too much given up IMO. I like Reddick, but not at this cost.

Do you guys would have some ideas for a deal in which we trade those 2 for a SG?

Memphis. O.J Mayo, Tony Allen, and someone else. Or just those two. But than we'd have to include Demar Derozan, which I would most particularly not want to do. I mentioned this trade before, but Derozan is playing tremendous recently so I'm keeping it on hold.

                You think Memphis would accept?

Well I'm not the general manager, but I could give reasons they would.

Gary Forbes and Demar Derozan solidify scoring right off the bat at the shooting guard position, and will create mismatch scoring like they have this season against defenders. Amir Johnson is a role player, energy guy, willing to take a 10-15 minute role, only to strengthen a very strong frontcourt built of Randolph, Gasol, Speights, Darrell Arthur, and Amir Johnson. The trade creates all-around effort on both ends of the floor, and develops more of a stronger, and energy spark bench well needed in the post-season. Arenas, Forbes, Amir Johnson coming off the bench would create solid bench production both ends of the court. Demar gives them young potential talent, a very good scorer, improving game, and a solid defender at best. Potential to be an all-star. Under a veteran/defensive team, his flaws(which aren't very observable) would he hid under the team system. Especially around the all-star caliber players.

                  Lineup:

                  Mike Conley/Gilbert Arenas/Jeremy Pargo
                  Demar Derozan/Forbes
                  Rudy Gay/Quincy Pondexter/Donte Cunningham
                  Zach Randolph/Amir Johnson/Darrel Arthur
                  Marc Gasol/Marresse Speights/Hamed Haddadi

                  Key Reserves:

                  A. Johnson, Forbes, Speights, Arthur, Arenas, Pargo.

                  Raptors Lineup:

                  Calderon/Bayless/Uzoh
                  O.J Mayo/*Brad Beal or Small Forward*/Tony Allen
                  *Gilchrist-Barnes-Jones3-Miller*/James Johnson/Linas Kleiza/Alan Anderson
Andrea Bargnani/Ed Davis/JJ and Kleiza (Both forward spots)
                  Jonas Valanciunas/Aaron Gray/Jamaal Magloire

Still having about 10$ million approximately for more trades/signings to grab a long-range specialist, point guard, etc.

Raptors have an all-around team, players that can score, rebound, defend, create energy plays, hustle plays, hit the big shot. Im my eyes creating a younger, more talented Denver Nuggets-esque type team. No real superstars, but players who can develop into all-stars, and everyone plays within their roles, accepts them, and carries out the task at hand.

IMO, positives and negatives are along with both trades, but trades that could help a team take a step forward.

ESPN trade machine won't let me complete the trade because of O.J Mayo's contract. But If I had it all up of Mayo + Allen for Forbes + Derozan + A. Johnson and second round pick are both in range of 8-10$ million salary matches.

I like it, seriously. But BC won't do something like this. A 1for1 (Amir for SG) seems more likely. (Redick? lol)

Amir for a shooting guard won't happen. Tony Allen is solid, but not good enough to hold down the position. Look at OKC, Boston, Memphis of course. They have defensive shooting guards, and their sixth men are shooting guards who can produce in sure fire minutes.

How about with just a defensive shooting guard and another defensive shooting guard? Look at Chicago. Defense will only go so far without offense, especially at that position. If Chicago had a healthy Rip Hamilton, results could've most likely have been different.
