  • Amare to Cleveland?

This trade proposal doesn't involve the Raptors, but as basketball fans, it is still of interest.

Two recent pieces of news got me thinking.

    1) It has been reported that LeBron James may agree to a contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers if they manage to bring in a good power forward. Two names were Antawn Jamison and Amare Stoudemire.

    2) It has also been reported that Amare Stoudemire is on the trading block. Phoenix is willing to trade away the all-star.

So how about this (via ESPN NBA Trade Machine):

    To Cleveland: Amare Stoudemire
    and
To Phoenix: Anderson Varejao and Zydrunas Ilgauskas

I just don't see the Cavs having the pieces to get Amare.

Expiring contracts really do them no good. They are in a position where its best to be over cap.

If phoenix wants expiring money for Stoudemire, they can play the season out and let him walk, in exchange for a huge trade exception. That would get them more than Varejao and Z.

Chicago is in a much better position with lots of good young players and Brad Miller's expiring deal. On the other hand Reinsdorf would have the think about it carefully for about 6 weeks before he announced his decision, by which time the opportunity would, to his surprise, no longer exist.

Amare is an all-star level talent.

There is no way Suns trade him for a Cavs back-up and marginal cap space!

But Amare will be hard to trade without an extension in place.
