I was thinking the same thing...... who gives a crap if they have to pay luxury tax.....MLSE or BELL or ROGERS makes enough $$$$ ...WHATEVER IT TAKES TO WIN.... you have to spend $$$ if you want to win (long term)

Isn't the real advantage of spending towards the luxury tax the ability to take risks by giving out bad contracts and then just letting those rot if the risk backfires? Most of the big spenders in the league have always had a crap contract that caused them to go into luxury tax. I don't think its a necessity that the Raps have to go with that approach even if they become contenders.
Unless if we are considering giving max contracts to deserving players (like Miami, minus Bosh), but I don't see those guys being available for Toronto unless we draft really well (ie, Val/Ross become mega stars).

Ken Berger @KBergCBS
Assuming Dwight re-signs, rough math for Lakers' guaranteed commitments for '13-'14, first year of super tax: $92M for six players.Ken Berger @KBergCBS
Based on $75M tax line, Lakers would owe $34.3M in tax for those six players at $92M alone. That's $126M for half a team.Last edited by mcHAPPY; Fri Aug 10, 2012, 10:03 AM.

Yeah I saw that tweet. I suppose having 4 veteran All-NBA players isn't, and shouldn't be, cheap...but that's just a little mindbottling. You know, when things are so crazy it gets your thoughts all trapped, like in a bottle. Two beer away from being two beers away.
