You may think that. Obviously multiple NBA coaches don't.
That doesn't mean they're right. NBA coaches are not sports scientists or personal trainers. Guys are more likely to perform better and with higher energy if they get well allocated breaks so that they can catch their breath. Guys are also more likely to get injured when they try to perform through fatigue. Multiple NBA coaches also stay far away from this strategy, and do a very good job making sure guys never get overextended so that they can always be at their best and also try to limit the risk of injury.

*Oh, and I forgot to add mental errors are also much more common when fatigued.

Just because these guys are pro athletes, doesn't mean they're machines.

They do most of the talking in the comments of their articles.

These guys aren't running the 5000 metres, they do get breaks for timeouts. And yeah, maybe multiple well-thought-of coaches are wrong. I'm no expert and have no way of knowing each players fitness level. Maybe Jack was right and JV's fitness level is such that he' was gassed 8-9 minutes in.

But PPat did not look gassed. He defended one Pierce shot well, bit on a fake allowing a blowby on another and twice got caught up on Garnett screens long enough for Pierce to get open looks. To me those 2 Garnett screens were well executed offensive plays that would have worked against even a fresh defender.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.
