  • at least he said an interesting project.. with BC ready to go all in on Nash & all the rumors around, if T.O dont manage to sign him it will be even harder to sign the next UFA... there going to be thinking if captain canada didnt want to go there why would i..

signing nash will give this franchise some credibility in the player circles for the first time since the VC era..(bosh never attracted any talent to the Raps)

if they fail to sign nash.. i cant say well be screwed but.. it will def. suck.

PS. Quincy Acy is a below-average rebounder at the 4. So it's time to curb those Reggie Evans comparisons.
You're half right on that. Acy's an excellent offensive rebounder and is on a par with Thomas Robinson. Acy averaged 2.6 offensive rebounds per game (29.7 mins per game). Robinson averaged 2.9 offensive rebounds per game (31.8 mins per game). However, Robinson nearly doubled Acy in defensive rebounds per game (4.8/9.0).

      • Signing Nash might be the only way for us to reach the level of respectability in the league. Without Nash, I don't know how we will be able to attract higher level free agents into the city.

        • Wow. I just listened to Bill Simmons and Chad Ford discuss Toronto for 10 minutes on the BS Report. Ya'll need to hear this: http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio/...ive?id=2864045

I was on the fence about signing Nash, but after hearing their arguments (one of which is NBA relevance) I am 100% in. They also gush over JV.

          ...hope?

The Raptors will bring a contingent of five members of the organization to meet with Steve Nash as soon as he's ready on Sunday.

Toronto's offer, likely to reach $12 million per season according to sources, is likely to be the most lucrative.

The Raptors are pushing for a playoff return in the 12-13 season.

"The Raptors would be one of those teams where you're probably not going there to win a championship in the next three years," said Nash. "For me it'd be going home to Canada, to a great city, and trying to help an organization move forward.

"I'm open to the positives of all of them. It'd be great if four or five contenders came after me and all offered me a deal, but the reality is I might not get that opportunity. So I'm going to look at every opportunity and Toronto will be one that I'll study as well and look at the opportunity for them to grow in the next three years and what kind of impact I can have on that team. And obviously from a community standpoint, it's a special place for me."

$12 mil? I was hoping for the 8-10 range

In an interview with Mark Stein, Steve Nash admitted that by coming to Toronto as a free agent he probably wouldn't be winning a championship in the next three years, but that it would be an interesting project.

              VIDEO INTERVIEW

I guess it means that Nash is looking to sign a three-year deal.

For those who want Lowry over Nash, I think you should probably realize that with only two years left on his deal Lowry would likely leave as a free agent after two years. So what's better? Three years of Nash or two years of Lowry?

PS. Quincy Acy is a below-average rebounder at the 4. So it's time to curb those Reggie Evans comparisons.
he also stated the following :There's positives to every situation," Nash said. "The Raptors would be one of those teams where you're probably not going there to win a championship in the next three years. For me it'd be going home to Canada, to a great city, and trying to help an organization move forward.

Sounds to me like he wants to come back to Canada to finish his career. Which in my part will be a very smart move not only financially but for Canadian history. He could be the most profiled Canadian basketball player to ever play for a Canadian team and the fact that he chose Canada over the high market teams speaks for itself. Also Maybe BC can sweeten the pot by offering him a job in office in some capacity once he retires. Plus he can OWN Canada with all the endorsements. He will make way more money here than in US and he doesn't mind out LOONIE & TOONIE!

What point of the BS Report do they start talking about the Raps? I really don't care to hear the rest of what they're saying right now

Since I don't see this magical "PG of the future" anywhere around these days(Lowry and Dragic are ok, but they're no Rondo, DWill or CP3), why wouldn't it be a good idea to bring in Nash for 3 seasons? If it doesn't work after two then he's still a great trade piece. The guy is probably still top 7 in the league and think of how quickly he could get JV adjusted to playing offensively, as well as create open looks for DeRozan and Bargs... shott, everyone for that matter, he's Steve Nash.

                    • Starts around minute 35-36.

I'd be more of a fan of Steve Nash joining us if we didn't have the younger and (in my mind) just about as good Calderon already in place.

Calderon is good.. your not wrong there but.. he is a half court, pick & roll specialist.. Nash is excelent at that as well but Nash thrives pushing the ball in the open floor, attacking defences & making fanastic plays.. its a no brainer... were an athletic running team... we need a PG who thrives in this type of offence

                        • Incredible interview. Rarely do you see someone speaking so candidly. That said, I'm no further ahead. He didn't crack a telling smile anywhere. Not when TO was mentioned, not Dallas (although in fairness, they cut away to a pic when Dallas came up). He did put his hand to his face when TO came up....any body language experts out there? . Could be us but I can also see him being the consolation prize for deron williams. Dw stays with the nets, Nash reunites with dirk. Dw goes west, the Russian gazillionsire throws it all at Nash and says he will be the first ever face of the Brooklyn nets. Should be interesting.

The Gasol part also sounded pretty intriguing, imagine a lineup of Nash, Ross, Artest, Gasol, JV. Wow... WOW....

                            • "Operation Nash in place"

ESPN.com reported early Saturday that the Raptors are planning a three-year offer to Nash worth $36 million.
                              Source: ESPN.com

Operation Nash in place for the Toronto Raptors: Sources says a group that includes team governor Larry Tanenbaum, GM Bryan Colangelo, and coach Dwane Casey is flying overnight from Los Angeles to New York tonight on Tanenbaum's jet in order to be the first team to greet free agent point guard Steve Nash in the morning. The group was attending a wedding of one of the team's assistant coaches in LA today.

                              • 12million/3 year is excessive even for Nash. Nash knows raptors cannot win it in the next 3 years. Despite what he says about not wanting to win it he wants to go to a championship contender. He is near the end of his career and does not want to admit not winning the championship will leave him feeling empty. Settling for the raptors and watch home fans cheer him to his retirement may get him some perks in his remaining years and post-career. His commercial value will soar further with a championship. I will remain skeptical of BC's ability to land him.

Just listened to the podcast. Chad is spot on about raptors reaching for Ross when we could have traded down with Houston.
I feel like houston picked up the remaining players (White,Lamb,T.Jones) on their board because their plan to trade up failed.

Jonas , Gasol and Nash in the same team sounds exciting too. We will have two aggressive bigs who can rebound and switch between each other effortlessly. Gasol can bring in 20 points 10boards every game. We spread the floor with T.Ross and demar. Nash can provide offense if needed. Add Bayless, Weems and Barnes we are good to go.

34-44 mins. they talk quite a bit about the teams potential if we went for Nash and Gasol.

This is what they had to say about our team:
'I look at this toronto team. They haven't had identity for last 9 years after vinsanity and steve nash can do wonders do that team'

Its a little bit strong but I will agree with them on a bad day.
