I just wished Colangelo would now admit how much he effed up on that Fields signing. Pretty obvious he signed the guy to block the Knicks from getting Nash. I don't think they're that really high on him.

Which is terrible if true because if that worked and we did get Nash, it'd would've been a waaaay worse move than bringing in Lowry. BC is just one big joke and really lucked out in Phoenix

Man I wish the NBA had a 90 day return policy like Wal-Mart. We found ourselves a defective product in Fields.

I'd say Fields is quickly becoming the most hated Raptor in a long while. I actually hate him more than Butler, because Butler hit a J once. If everyone bands together and hates on Fields maybe he will quit, thus voiding his contract. Keep the hate coming please.

Patience is a virtue, but so is a jump-shot. Fields may be the quickest player in franchise history to wear-out his welcome.

For me, it all depends on the match-up. Next game vs Philly, I'd give Fields one last shot, but on a short leash if he isn't contributing something offensively (anything really). Then I'd go Kleiza against Utah to help out against their big front court. Re-match vs Indy, maybe McGuire and let him guard Paul George.

Overall I think Anderson is better suited to a bench role. Long-term, Ross is likely the only option on the roster but is he ready? Hard to tell when his minutes are down, but without being at practice it's hard to say why.

Long term, they need to go get a legit starting NBA small forward.

Short term, it's going to be tough. I think Casey is going to have play Derozan and Lowry 40+ mins a night for this team to win many games. If you can roll with Calderon in some sort of small ball lineup for awhile each night you can give ~Calderon 25 minutes. Even running those guys into the ground leaves ~40 mins on the perimeter where you need to find productivity. Honestly, I think mixing and matching and experimenting is going to be the theme all year cause none of the candidates; Fields, Anderson, McGuire, Ross, Kleiza; is going to give you a good 25+ mins a night on a consistent basis.

I don't necessarily think thats entirely the case. I do think a huge part of his success in Phoenix was due to his fathers influence, but BC still deserves credit for making decisions.

When he came to Toronto he had something to prove (ie. it was him not his dad who built a successful Phoenix squad) but the combination of the loss of his dad's influence (on players and staff) and his ego (proving himself) has hindered BC.

He keeps trying to rebuild while still being good, something that only the superior markets (LA, Dallas etc) have been able to do. He refuses to believe that his ideas aren't working out or aren't going to work out, and then even goes so far as to double or triple down on them (Bosh, Bargnani, Demar, retooling etc).

What he should have been doing after Bosh left was cleaning house, and he didn't do that. Instead he eliminated some outside peices, while leaving the core intact and then went out and said 'hey I can still win now while building for the future just like I did in 2006' (which ofcourse he did not succeed in doing). While not impossible, its also not the most feasible route given Toronto's market.

Its just unfortunate that this team had a perfect opportunity to start over, specifically last year. Bargnani had his 13 game run which had to increase his trade value to its peak to date. Demar was still on his rookie deal and could have been given every opportunity to prove his worth before being resigned. The team was going to be bad in a great draft year and could have moved more peices early to be worse by season's end. The team had a lot of cap flexibility to do things like attempt to trade for more first round picks.

Instead the team is still sitting on giant holes, inconsistent peices, and less ability than they've had in years to make significant moves. Its great having Lowry and Val as the future of this team... but Colangelo (or whoever is here in the future) is still going to need these two players success to overlap + have talent beside them at the time.

Colangelo's only saving grace right now is his willingness to gamble big - something he will almost absolutely need to do. Unfortunately he's not sitting on a good track record while at the casino.

But I just don't see the 'wing situation' being to be addressed unless Colangelo is willing to move Bargnani, or something positive clicks internally (Fields improves, Demar busts out, Ross becomes a game changer). I'm not willing to bet on any of those right now.

"Trade Bargnani while he's hot? Are you crazy? What if he magically turns into a consistent player like Dirk? BC would be a fool to trade Bargnani."

This was the common response to any such idea 12 months ago.

Albeit in a small sample size, we are ranked 17th in points scored and 24th in points allowed. I don't think now is the time to trade defense for offense in our starting lineup. Let things gel. If you were asked what our record would be after playing Indiana, Brooklyn, Minnesota, OKC and Dallas, I think many level headed people would have predicted 1-4. It just seems worse because we have actually put ourselves in a position to win most games. Keep in mind this is the same place that people were drooling over the possibility of Wilson Chandler as our starting SF. BTW,please don't turn this into a fields v. chandler thread . Hang in there and give this guy more than a week to find his game with this team.

Personally, I really like McGuire. He is a specialist capable of guarding 2 through 4.
i could get behind this. he's not going to be effective with the backups (they can't score) and could guard the opposite team's best player.

For instance, last night they could have stuck him on Mayo and let Demar cover Collison (while not great on D, he seems to do ok against shorter players) and stuck caldy on Crowder. If Mayo was actually being defended, would they have taken that huge first quarter lead?

McGuire was the victim of a couple missed calls in the fourth quarter. One where he was being held by VC and Carter got the free throws and an obvious block (on the replay) which was deemed a foul.

Anderson appears to be supremely comfortable in his role with the second unit. So Kleiza should be given the chance to start a half-dozen games or so to see how he handles it. Has Kleiza ever done anything to not deserve such a chance? I can't think of anything. He is not always hot, but he is very hot sometimes. He seems to thrive when he gets a rhythm going. He never totally sucks. I really think he is given short shrift in T.O. and he'd be much better off with a different franchise that would recognize his substantial value. Toronto treats him like he's the worst player on the team even though he is obviously very talented. It's weird.

P.S. Fields really, really, really does play exactly like a Washington General; running around in circles always trying to avoid looking like he's useless.
