  • The Unofficial Buyout/Late-Season Signing Thread

Orlando is currently working on buying out Glen Davis. The Clippers are expected to go after Davis considering they have like three bigs on the team currently and two of them are Blake and Deandre.

The new CBA ensures there are going to be more of these: guys on their last season or second-last season who are willing to give up some guaranteed money to play elsewhere and who are willing to work with their current teams to make it happen. Kris Humphries might be one if only because Boston saves money by doing so rather than paying him through the end of the season, and he's good enough to make up some of the money on a short contract somewhere else where they're contending. Chicago might work something out with Mike Dunleavy in the event that Taj Gibson looks to be a threat to collect bonus payments which would send the Bulls into the tax. Sacramento might look to ditch Jason Thompson. The Lakers are probably discussing buyouts with half the team because with Steve Blake gone they only need to get rid of an extra $6m in salary and they'll be below the tax, and you know Jordan Hill and Chris Kaman, at least, will find a spot somewhere soon enough.

So: should we consider buying out Landry? Is there anybody likely to be bought out that we should be keeping an eye on?

What's the current status of Kaman? Would've loved to have got him to back up JV going into the playoffs.

Why didn't we make a move on Jordan Hill, Chris Kaman or Matt Bonner. There is no way Glenn Davis will sign with us, he's going to the Clippers (Doc Rivers connection) or Nets (Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce connection)

why would we make a move for Matt Bonner? He's a stretch 5 with no defensive presence

There is no way on earth landry is agreeing to a buyout, he hasn't played in 2 years, it might be his last contract if he leaves now, buyouts are for players who have a chance of signing with someone else.
Plus don't forget he has a poison pill contract so he still has the majority of his contract left to be collected.

Love the random names tenforthewin throws in Matt Bonner?

Jordan Hill would be useful though if the lakers offload him.

I think he's definitely what you'd call a F/C, he's big enough to do both. Looks pretty decent as far as rim protection goes from games I've watched the Lakers play this season. But then again, I guess it's not hard to look good defending the rim when you're playing alongside the corpse of Pau Gasol.

Trade deadline just passed and now Raptor fans have found a new way to day dream about getting "real" NBA players into this team. Gentlemen, This is it till the end of the season !!! This is your team and you might get guys like De Colo added to it.

How about Big Baby (was just bought out by Orlando), the depth wouldn't hurt, he's a better version on Hayes. At 6'9, 290, I'm sure he is able to hold his ground on the bigger bodies.

In regards to the bold, Hill plus Kaman are owed a total of 2.4 mill for the balance of the year. Even in the highly unlikely situation they both accept a buyout at 50%, that's only 1.2 million cap savings. Other than the big 3 (Kobe, Gasol, Nash) the rest of the players on the roster are owed half a mill or less each.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

Orlando Johnson was just cut by the Pacers. He is a really good dude, young but wise, and a sharpshooter. Mr. Masai should consider signing him before anyone else does. The team needs another wing player.

I thought he's trying to get away from the "Big Baby" nickname? KG will have him crying in minutes. Again.
