my only fear about Novak is that his shooting stroke become Rasual Butler esque yalk about embarrassing....*** all he has to do is sink those open 3s and hes worth it imo.

My fear with Novak is that he tries to do more than he's capable of.. kind like Kapono did when he was a Raptor. That seems to be a common trend among role players and the Raptors. They think because they are on a bad team they can do whatever they want.

My bold prediction for the 2013-14 season, is that Daye out plays Novak and gets his minutes.

    I second that
Tis a bold prediction considering Casey's love affairs with "vets".

Great idea for the offense ... helps with spacing for Gay and Derozan.

BUT - our coach is Dwane Casey, and defence is the focus.
I think what he's trying to say here is..

I know it may seem like a strange idea at first, but let's just think about it.

-Novak can play both forward spots.
-None of the current starters can really shoot the 3.
    -Novak can shoot the 3.
-We currently don't really have a backup center.
-Amir was really good last season as a center.
-Amir could be our backup center.
-Give more playing time to the wings.
    -Etc.

Let's look at what could be the rotation:
    Valanciunas/Johnson/Gray
    Novak/Hansbrough/Acy
    Gay/Fields/Daye
    DeRozan/Ross/Stone
    Lowry/Augustin/Buycks

Novak would be a stretch 4, with Jonas being the man in the middle. Difference between this situation and Bargnani's one is that Novak won't ask for a lot of minutes and he's a winner. Plus we won't have the same expectations for him that we had for Bargnani.

I think it would simply really improve our rotations. Amir can still play more minutes than him, I just think it would fit better with this rotation.

What do you guys think of this idea?
    No.

Don't want to sound rude, but assuming you aren't trolling, this is absurd. We do this, and teams are going to parade into our paint. Jonas isn't Roy Hibbert or Dwight Howard, his defense is no where near the point where he can clog the lane by himself and defend. You leave JV on an island like that and he'll never play 30+ min a game due to foul troubles. While Novak can technically be labelled as a stretch 4 due to his size, he's nothing more than a pure shooter that should be brought off the bench for a couple 3s a game.

While I like Novak for his shooting ability, he's even worse than bargs at defense. True that bargs wasn't a good help defender, but he plays decent man-to-man defense due to his size and decent agility. Bargs could also create his own offense by going for the drive, pulling up for mid range jumper or catch and shoot at the 3pt line. Whereas for Novak, pretty much all his possessions are catch and shoot situations behind the 3 point line.

And why breakup our starting line of lowry, dd, gay, amir and jonas. Though the sample size was small, didn't we have one of the better starting lineups in the league? And didn't we have one of the most effective front court tandems in JV and Amir?

Fields plays him incredibly well to force Kobe to go for a rather tough shot he hits it cause he's Kobe lol. To Fields credit too a lot of other players would have set fuck it and let Kobe by hes all over him good D.

Not exactly sure what Novak was doing lmao runs over at first looking to be a move double to force a trap but loses himself on a Kobe fake then regains balance to put up a lousy contest to help Fields lol awful.

In this video clip Fields stays with Koby about 3 fakes longer than most guys in the league could.
Yup. It is a testament to Kobe's fundamentals and excellence. What he does in that sequence is absolutely incredible when you consider it is in slow motion.

Too funny.. I don't think we even need visual evidence anymore to know that Novak's a terrible defender. I've read countless articles where writers compare his turning ability to a steamboat.
