LOL - I'm sure everyone remembers Uzoh and his triple double in 2012? I'm pretty sure that Uzoh and DC cost us Barnes or Lillard. It may not matter which bunch of scrubs Masai hands Dwane Casey, there's always a chance we win 1 or 2 more games than we would want to (if we were tanking).....always a chance! Wouldn't that be some shit??? Talk about raining on your tank parade...lol
It wouldn't be the 1st (or 2nd) time we were screwed by not tanking properly. Remember when we drafted DeRozan instead of Steph Curry thanks to a worthless 9-2 finish to end a season led by Shawn Marion? :|

    It's the Raptor way....

Hopefully it was just the Colangelo way!

      Remember last year? *paraphrased*
"They weren't worthless wins. We kicked them in the teeth!"

Granted last year was kind of necessary. A 7th pick would have been harder to stomach than a 12th.

      • Looking at some of the mocks, there looks like some potential stars all the way into the late teens...Aaron Gordon, Willie Stein, Harrison twins, Perry Ellis (guy who outscored Wiggins against Duke)...Even if we are drafting between 13-17 we should be able to find a guy who can contribute right away. even into the second round there are talented guys...Bogdanovic, Pothyress from KU. Oh baby what a draft, even if we aren't in the top end of the lotto

The question is, are any of those guys franchise cornerstone talents?

That's what the tanking community is after. That player to without-a-doubt build a team around.

          • I mentioned this on the Lets NBA forum. This draft is top 15 deep. There might not be a Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins in the 10-15 range. But you could still get a real good player in that range ie Mario Hezonja(very high on this kid), Doug McDermott, Noah Vonleh, Andrew Harrison, Rodney Hood, Wayne Selden.......

Wouldn't the pro-tanker say that acquiring additional picks could result in the Raptors getting both?

                You would think.

I mentioned this is another thread. Those that are adamantly against tanking, seem to be arguing from a moral point of view. Like tanking is somehow cheating, or comes with bad karma, etc. I don't get it.

To me, it's just being somewhat of a realist. Sure, you can win a hand going all-in with an Deuce/Seven off suit. But the smart move is to fold and set your sights on the next hand (or next season).

The generally agreed-upon franchise talents in this draft:

                  Wiggins
                  Parker
                  Randle

The "probably a franchise talent, at worst you're getting a Bosh/Pippen level second banana talent" players:

                  Exum
                  Smart
                  Aaron Gordon

The "possibly a franchise player, possibly a second banana, maybe a third in your Big Three" players:

                  Andrew Harrison
                  Dario Saric
                  Joel Embiid
                  Wayne Selden Jr.

The "maybe a franchise guy, maybe just an average NBA starter" players:

                  Glenn Robinson III
                  Gary Harris
                  James Young

                  • Given Ujiri's track record in the draft, I'm comfortable drafting in the 10-20 range (given the bevy of talent). Wouldn't be surprised if there are some Paul George-esque sleepers scattered throughout those picks. So by NOT tanking we may still have a chance to nab a star (just like we would have a chance at a star by tanking).

Time will tell I guess...should be an interesting college season.

It would be awesome to deal Lowry, gay, and dd and get at least one pick coming back in the range you speak of AND have the raps own top 5 pick

Plus who knows what could happen draft night with some cheap team.... Looking at you Chicago!

If that was possible, I would have to consider switching my avatar... I still like Demar though I hope he sticks around past this season.

I wouldn't put Bosh and Pippen in the same sentence.

Scottie Pippen = Franchise player. Hall of Famer. One of the top 50 greatest players of all time.

                          • Pippen >>>>>>> Bosh

Pippen is one of the greatest to ever play but he gets no respect because he 1) was a bitch early in his career vs Pistons, and 2) played with arguably the greatest ever.

BTW, Pippen was my favourite player growing up.... the Bulls Pippen; not so much the Rockets or Blazers version.
