You can tar and feather me now, because the court of popular opinion has rendered its decision. But I think Harden is the MVP. Bucks are 6th in the East without Giannis IMO. Rockets are BAAAAAAD this year without Harden. Probably only ahead of Phoenix. Especially factoring Bucks have been fairly healthy all year until now and Rockets were pretty decimated. And lost key guys from last year, whereas Bucks have added guys. And yet, Harden remains the biggest threat to the Warriors out West
My argument against this is that Milwaukee is going to finish almost 10 games above Houston in the standings, and it's those last 10 wins that are the toughest ones to get, to take you from very good team to great team. I think the gap between Milwaukee with and without Giannis is pretty similar to the gap between Houston with and without Harden.

That being said, I think it's incredibly close, but Harden gets my vote. Giannis has been given the perfect scenario to succeed in Milwaukee. He's still been great but on a lesser team or a team not built as well as the Bucks are he doesn't put up these kind of numbers or is that kind of a menace. Milwaukee is perfectly built to hide his flaws and accentuate his strengths. Harden's Houston situation isn't quite like that. It has been in past years, but this year he just went all out and played terrifically the whole year with very little support right when his team needed him to. Giannis is better defensively and that matters, but I think ounce for ounce Harden is ever so slightly more valuable that Giannis is.
That is a normal collar. Move on, find a new slant.

I don't think it should be close at all. You mentioned Harden's numbers, Giannis numbers this year is out of this world as well. And the Bucks have the best record in the NBA. Giannis also doesn't have a true superstar like Chris Paul to play with.

The Bucks are basically Giannis + a bunch of role players.
Lol i never mentioned Hardens numbers, in fact I was speaking in a very general sense. I was mostly commenting that Harden doesn’t get the respect he deserves, dudes been the best offensive player for a while now. In general I dont think people watch Harden play, with the cliche arguments which arent true. Its not worth arguing about MVP when everyone has different arbitrary criteria for MVP to support the guy they like more.

I think we need an offensive player of the year award. Lots of time the offense is the main driver of these MVP campaigns. You have to take into account Giannis has been unbelievable on D he will probably be on most peoples ballot for DPOY. Harden can have offensive player of the year and giannis is the MVP.

Yeah I kind of agree. Kind of unrelated but a pet peeve of mine is the TV guys who say, “X is the better player but Y is a better two way player” the logic there makes no sense.

I see a of people have been taking bud based on the improvement bucks have made. but nuggets have got waaaaaay better. went from outside the playoffs to going shot for shot with warriors for 1st in the west. also Jason kidd was such a bad coach adding bud should have been expected to make the team way better.

I think masai should get it. had the 2nd biggest move of the off-season and it was actually successful unlike he Lakers. also some sort of weight should be put on Pascal's development. I get Elton brand may be an option but his moves can't really be evaluated till the postseason although you could say the same for us. a second round exit is where they were last year so the same result doesn't really move the needle for either team. I always wonder how they base these awards Morey got it for getting Paul and Meyers for signing Durant. kawhi is just as big additon as those guys but it came via trade. do voters value free agent signings over trades? Masai off season moves definatly took the biggest balls over anything in recent memory rolling the dice on trading the franchise player is an ultimate big time move and it so far has worked out.
I agree, Masai is probably the exec this year with the most successful combination of draftee breakthrough (Siakam), high end player acquisition (Kawhi), upgrade at deadline (Gasol) and overall team success. Philly front office has done well too though.

Can't look past the moves the Bucks (Jon Horst) made this off season.

                    - Hired Bud
                    - Signed Ilyasova, Lopez and Connaughton in the summer
                    - Traded for George Hill
                    - Traded for Mirotic
                    - Re-signed Bledsoe to a good deal
                    - #1 team in the NBA

Nothing splashy like Masai or Brand... but Horst got them an elite coach and an elite bench to surround their super star who will most likely get the MVP.

I haven't followed how well Mirotic has been playing for the Bucks. That was a huge addition at the time

As a Raptor fan, Masai should win Executive of the Year award simply for somehow managing to acquire Green in the DeRozan/Leonard deal

Horst inherited Giannis and Middleton so it’s hard to give him too much credit for getting rid of Kidd (which happened last year), hiring Bud and tweaking around the fringes. Giannis is hellbent on winning, so the breakthrough was coming anyway.
