  • Data point (small sample size) for you: I'm in Colorado this week and talked to a Nuggets fan who thinks the Raptors can win 50 games this year as-is. So it's not necessarily pure homerism to see this team being potentially a second-tier, get-to-the-ECF-and-see-what-happens team.

I don't that having 50-win potential is enough to prevent mid-season player movement from happening, however. It probably *does* makes it difficult to tank effectively, short of anything less drastic than the Beal/Wall+picks for Kyle/Serge/Marc nuclear option. Accordingly, I am expecting at least one, possibly two trades which are retooling trades rather than all-picks-and-prospect trades. For example, if Kyle asks to be traded to Philly (who would benefit tremendously from his play as currently constructed) and we find a way to oblige them, I think our next move would be to try to swing a trade with GSW built upon Serge going out and DeAngelo Russell going in. That move is definitely not a tear-down move.

Yeah it will be really hard to tank.. even if we go full on nuclear (ie, trading all our vets for nobody's), we'll still have Siakam. Siakam with a bunch of nobody's and Nick at the helm could get you about 35 wins.. which would have lead to the 10th or 11th pick (last year) in the draft which obviously is not ideal.

As for D'Angelo... my preferred trade would be to trade Lowry for him at the deadline. GSW would get Klay back around then.. they have to worry about Draymond's max contract next year. Could use the cap space by renouncing Lowry in free agency. But Lowry > D'Angelo for one more playoff run this year IMO. No way would GSW trade him for Serge. Serge is a role player at this point.

If Ibaka were in play they'd almost certainly want OG. They'd actually be pretty well set up again with Curry/Klay/OG/Draymond/Serge (/Looney).

        • Seriously what was Washington doing with the John Wall contract?

I was thinking, I would consider taking on John Wall if you get Beal.... then I actually saw what he was making. Hell no!!!

Beal would probably when he could. The you are stuck with 47M and 48M Wall after that.

Him and Chris Paul are untouchable IMO

          • Masai has actually put us in a great position. He’s in assets collecting mode and then he’s going to strike.

            • I would be calling Phoenix every day about Booker. Signed long term. If you can Pair
him with Siakam. And then keep cap room for 2021, we could lure in a top FA.

Booker seems to be an untouchable for them.. as they seem to be building around him. Would be surprised if the Suns let him go to be honest.

Anything the Suns do is not a surprise.
A team that desperately needed a PG..traded out of the spot they could get one...for a boom or bust pick at 12 in Cam Johnson..yet another stretch 4 type wing in a line of curious picks in Chris’s. Bender and Jackson.

They then traded back up in round 1 to get a project pick in Jerome at 24 to play the position..They then hedged that bet by signing a FA in PG in Ricky Rubio who was not being chased by anyone and might have overpaid him in the term of the deal.

Call..who knows what they might do.

There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.

                  • Well...if we're clearing cap room for 2021, here's another free agent we can add to the list of targets..

                    • I could see Booker forcing his way out of there if they keep on being a laughing stock of the NBA, they are the new Kings.

The Clips gave up all of that draft loot and Shai for a possible 2 yr. stint of Leonard & George? Well now! No guarantees what those boys will do in '21.

                          • Picture this....Kawhi gets to go back home. He's hounded relentlessly by the expanded media. Family is pestering him for tickets for the big LA/LA matchups. George gets injured and they lose in the first round. There's the odd earthquake or two. His daughter really wants to go to Havergal. He does suffer the curse of famed ex raptors (I wish I never left). And in two years he finds another top tier player to conspire to come join in in the wealth of cap space in Toronto. Yeah, we're over him but just the thought of this is hilarious. We got him for one guaranteed year and we got a championship out of it. For trading away your whole future, you get him for two guaranteed years. It'll probably work out but.....Have fun Clippers.

Remember, LeBron will also be a free agent in 2021. If he leaves the Lakers, i could see Kawhi leaving the Clippers and joining forces with AD with the Lakers.
