Switch to our team or just skips Summer League all together to give other guys a shot since he has a contract already. Byucks had similar situation. Was playing for Orlando summer league but got signed by Raps.

Just because he has a contract, doesn't mean he should skip summer league with the Raps. In all likelyhood he will be travelling back & fourth with the 905 so the sooner he plays with some of his future team-mates the better.

Seems to be a trend this off-season: Masai is loading up on athletic guards who can shoot and handle the ball. Also mobile big men. Nick Nurse's drive and kick offense + switching perimeter defense vision is going to be realized.
Masai has always looked for these types of player. Norm, Wright, Yak, Siakam all fit this mold.

Guards who could shoot? No. Except Fred, who isn’t athletic. Guards who can shoot are a new thing. Norm and Delon and Cojo are were non shooters brought in to defend so that DeMar and Kyle could take it easy on defense.

Raptors used to draft guys who fell in the draft because of their lack of shooting. It's the truth.(with SJ and RHJ signing it's still there) but with Matt Thomas, Davis signings they pulling back from that a bit.

Well, keep in mind, Thomas and Davis are both UDFA’s (Thomas a little farther removed) so the comparable there is not the draft picks but FVV. Guards who can shoot appear to be the UDFA target for Masai. While draft picks he tends to disregard shooting entirely and focus on defence, length, etc. So these 2nd draft guys fitting the draft pattern makes some sense.

Not so much shooting because raptors believe they can teach that. Athletic guards and mobile bigs has always been a Masai thing here in Toronto. He saw ahead time that your bigs would have to be able to guard on the perimeter some.

                    From The Athletic:
                    ==================================
But just as he did after his freshman season, Davis returned to the gym and kept working. Pensack kept working from his end too, flooding the inbox of NBA director of basketball operations Wesley Harris. Eventually, Davis was invited to G League Camp.

Soon after the camp, Davis was headed to the NBA combine in Chicago.

His confidence was growing, and Davis truly believed everything he had been working for over the past four years would be rewarded. Then draft night came and went, and Davis found himself without a roster spot.

“I did well at the elite camp, I did well at the combine, and I thought I’d get my to hear my name called on draft night,” Davis said. “Stuff happens. Now, I’m just trying to get an opportunity.”

Davis wasn’t the only one disappointed.

“From the conversations, I was having with NBA people I was a little surprised,” Kennedy said. “His mindset was initially disappointed, but just like in college, he just went to work. He put himself in the position to get a contract.”

Davis and Pensack turned down a number of two-way contract offers presented during the draft process, waiting for the right offer and not settling for less than what they thought Davis deserved.

The Nuggets invited him to minicamp and then to Las Vegas, and liked what they saw.

“I’ve said it since Day 1: he’s an NBA player,” Nuggets Summer League coach Jordi Fernandez said. “He proved it, and I think he’s going to keep doing it because this kid, mentally, he’s really tough.”

The Nuggets were in the mix as a possible destination for Davis, but ultimately, the offer, and roster spot, from the Raptors hit all the right notes.

Davis will have his first taste of playing for Toronto later this week; he returns to Las Vegas on Wednesday after his physical. It hasn’t been easy, but Davis knew it wouldn’t be. His father told him that long ago.

                      NBA Comparison: Royal Ivey

Strengths: Strong, physical combo guard with solid playmaking ability ... Excels on the defensive end of the floor ... Aggressive mind set ... Has decent range and touch on shot, and offensive abilities ... Shows some ability to run the pick and roll ... Has good length with a 6'8.75 wingspan, and a 8'5 standing reach to make up for a lack of ideal height ... A tough nosed defender, with long arms and a defensive mentality ... Willing to grind out possessions and puts the same level of effort in on both ends ... A solid athlete with leaping ability ... Good hand eye coordination ... Good physicality, thick build at 6'4, 190 lbs ... Shows a lot of focus/determination ... Has decent form on his shot, gets squared, hand placement, follow through ... Showed solid outside shooting ability, hitting 2 three pointers per game at a solid 37% clip ... Also improved his FT% from 72 to a decent, though still in need of improvement 77% ... His rebounding numbers are extremely solid for a guard and show effort and the ability to contriute in other ways ... Showed improvement as a facilitator and limiting his turnovers from previous seasons ... 1.6 steals per games as a senior ... Four years in college, he has learned to play a team game and shows maturity ...

Weaknesses: More of a 2-guard and lacks prototypical height for a shooting guard at 6'3 barefoot ... Plays a little ball dominant ... Not a prolific scorer. Shot is solid, but not standout ... Needs to become better at creating shots for himself in isolation situations ... Must get better at playing off the ball and utilizing screens for shot opportunities ... Lacks elite quickness ... Plays a little bit of a bully ball style ... Not the most creative playmaker ... Turnover prone. Averaged 2.8 turnovers to 3.5 assists, though he did improve after having a negative A/To ratio in previous seasons ... Needs to improve his ball handling as he has a tendency to get out of control on drives and lose the ball ... At times forces bad shots ...

Outlook: Davis has a chance to help a team right away due to his defensive ability and versatility ... He will benefit by landing with the right team that is able to utilyze his strengths and not ask him to do too much ... the fact that he has such length and defensive potnetial really helps his cause ...Probably second round pick ... Projects as a solid backup with the versatility to defend and play either guard spot ...

Notes: Measured 6' 3'' barefoot, 6' 4.5'' in shoes, 192.4 lbs, 6' 8.75'' wingspan, and a 8' 5'' standing reach ... Native of Southaven, Mississippi where he attended Southaven High School ... Led Mississippi to a 20-13 record and a tournament birth (where they lost to Oklahoma) ... Participated and was one of the standouts at the 2019 NBA Draft Combine scoring 11 and 19 points in the two contests ...

So they're calling him a likely end of the bench journeyman. Good enough for the league but not good enough to get meaningful minutes. There's lots of guys like this who don't get a shot and so I hope he hits the ground running.

lol. We’ve been playing FVV at shooting guard who is 5’10 in stilettos on a good day. Dude is huge by Raptor standards.

How did Fred fare against Orlando and Philly though?
