We're stuck with him at least until Trade Deadline. Might as well give him some burn and see if he can be effective.

In the small sample size of games he played, he played well. Didn't take stupid shots. He's active, defends well, and does intangible things it seems.

He's like AJ, but without the scoring touch. Would've loved to see him on the floor more this season.

to be honest, landry is an effective player if used wisely, it doesnt seem like his shooting form will be the same as before, but what makes him valuable is he's above average defender who can actually the wing pretty well, also an excellent rebounder, he does the little things to win, hope he can contribute next year with his expiring contract to make his trade value increase

A second round pick would be a good return for him.

And maybe a lighter (4 million per?) 2 year deal.

A team that wants to free up capspace for LeBron and others in 2015 free angency can have Fields expire then, and we free up space for 2016 when our deal expires.

And we get a pick for hopefully a diamond in the rough, or as a trading asset.

It sucks, but we have the freedom to try to deal him away if another team will take him. We've carried him for 2-seasons already. I think that's enough.

In #Masai I trust to make something useful out of him in a trade.

I hope he's at least in the 10-man rotation. I'm gonna assume Masai will sign VC as Salmons replacement, which should be good as VC is still reliable on offense. Landry tho can play the 4 to like he did last year whenever the Raps play small ball: Lowry-Demar-Ross-Landry-Jonas/Amir, as Landry is also a very good rebounder.

It sucks that he never got his rookie form and shot back, and that he's overpaid. It's not his fault. He would have been a Shane Battier. But this guy's a great pro, great locker room guy.

Trading Fields right now would be one of those "sell low" situations. The guy's trade value is as low as it's every been.

Keep him over the summer and see if he can get some of his shooting form back. It's worth the risk.
I agree. Not so much about the sell low idea, but Fields has been a solid citizen, and this past year has been all about how cohesive our group has been.

He's only really hurting us with his contract.

There have been no riffs or acts of unprofessionalism related to him, and he's even becoming a media personality by joining reality shows now.

I think that if he's willing, we should take the time and effort to help him regain his shooting stroke to get back in to the regular rotation next year. He might not be a part of our future plans, but worst-case scenario is he becomes a cheerleader off the bench for one year, albeit a cheerleader who ain't gonna ruffle any feathers on a winning team. Best-case scenario is he ups his value, becomes part of the regular rotation again, and becomes a valuable rotation player for a playoff team or great trade fodder for the sharks waiting to pounce on the 2015 offseason.

Fields might not be able to justify his contract, but IMO he's certainly justified his status as a professional NBA player. Those are more rare then they should be.

You want an offensive black hole on the floor for 15 minutes a game?

Until Fields can shoot again, he needs to be brought on simply to cover someone who is dominating, or will dominate.

Taking all the issues into account- Just think of a "we really need two or three stops here boys" lineup of Lowry-Ross-Fields-Johnson-Johnson.

The problem with Johnson was that he couldn't shoot, BUT still liked to do it too much. Landry knows he can't shoot so he doesn't take bad shots.
Exactly, and that guy had a bit of an ego issue, which is guy he went to Sacramento. He wanted to play a bigger role on offence whereas Casey was against that idea.

Very talented player, but I think that team chemistry comes first. Then again, he might have matured since then. Just like Lowry did this past season, maybe James Johnson could as well.

You know who I wouldn't mind getting? James Johnson as a defensive specialist.

I really think we need to find a good shot coach who can look back at his prior form and see what's changed and help him fix it. I mean, he hit .39 from three on 2.7 shots per game. I don't know what went wrong since, but at some point, he had it.
Definitely, although that nerve damage may have completely destroyed his shot mechanics, and he could still be working on getting his shot back.

    Regardless, Fields deserved Salmon's minutes.

And to be honest, I don't think that Fields was bad on the offensive end. I remember how, during the playoffs, he was trying to be aggressive and to get to the rim. He never got any calls, but then again neither did our stars, either. (I mean this in terms of getting a call when it was actually deserved vs. when it wasn't. The refs were notorious for missing calls.).

He's still a high flyer, and in his limited minutes, he did throw it down. That dunk vs Orlando is still resonating in my head.

Bottom line, Masaii should try and see what he can get out of Fields during the early part of next season. If his play is not worthy of a backup SF, then he should put him on the trading block. If it is worthy, then by all means he should be retained.

Im still a firm believer in the idea that if Fields was put on Joe Johnson during the playoffs for a greater allotment of minutes, the whole dynamic of many of the games could have changed. We were in need of a Joe Johnson stopper during the playoffs when in fact he was glued to the pine.

We've got an issue if we are starting Landry, but I'm happy with him being the back up SF, and getting 15-25 mins per game.

Defensively he is sound. And although he has NO shot (and probably won't ever have a shot). He sees the floor well as both a passer and cutter, he moves a lot on offense, which makes the defense think and react more, which can cause mixups/mistakes that can be exploited. He isn't worth 8 or even 6 million at this point, but he's on the roster and I think he's useful. Also, playing him is more likely to increase any trade value than decrease it.

Fields should be higher on the depth chart than Salmons, and it's a shame Casey didn't realize that during round 1. May have been a small difference maker.

Scoring, which comes from shooting is the last action in an offensive sequence, but it's one of many (passing, dribbling, cutting, screening), Fields is better than average at ALL of those skills minus shooting. Does that make him a +offensively? No. But I don't think it's unrealistic for him to be a net neutral player on offense.

plus Defense and neutral offense = pretty good bench player, especially if you second unit has a lot scorers (Vasquez, Patterson, 1 of Lowry, Derozan, Ross). I think he's a got a skill set that is a great fit. And unless/until the raps have a younger player (via trade or draft) Fields is my first wing off the bench. Even if Salmons isn't waived.

IF he could shoot even a little bit, (again don't think that happens) OR you find him a way to get 1-2 cuts for lay ups (I think can happen) and an occasional put back he is easily a + on the floor.
