  • Playoff Predictions 2019/20

What are your predictions for the standings in both conferences?

    I'll go first.

    East
    1. Philly
    2. Milwaukee
    3. Toronto
    4. Indiana
    5. Boston
    6. Orlando
    7. Brooklyn
    8. Detroit
    9. Atlanta

    West
    1. Denver
    2. Utah
    3. Houston
    4. LA Clippers
    5. Golden State
    6. Portland
    7. LA Lakers
    8. Dallas
    9. Spurs
    10. Sac

I'm rooting for Sacramento out west but they just aren't able to win close or competitive games consistently yet and I think they'll find themselves in a lot of those.

Lol. 2018-19 Raptors changed the NBA forever...

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum each stated that they no plans to sit out games during the regular season, citing the competitive Western Conference playoff race.

“We’re not some big super team. So I don’t think we have the luxury to sit out, especially with how competitive the West is going to be," Lillard told Joe Freeman of The Oregonian.

Lillard admitted that he was tired after making it to the Western Conference finals last year.

McCollum added that the Blazers cannot follow the Kawhi Leonard-load management plan.

“The race in the Western Conference is extremely tight. I don’t know if we can afford to Kawhi it, so to speak. You’ll Kawhi your way out of the playoffs.”

Cant argue with your list for the east, might switch the Bucks and 6ers but thats really all Id be confident to switch.

      West: 1 - Houston
      2 - LAC
      3 - LAL
      4 - Denver
      5 - Portland
      6 - Utah
      7 - Golden State
      8 - San Antonio

Not a huge Denver fan after they lost to a depleted Portland in the playoffs. The Murray/Jokic 2-man game is lethal but I dont trust anyone else to create, plus they are a mediocre defensive team. Just seems like even though my top3 teams arent as complete or deep roster wise, they can just walk backwards into a lot of wins with their duos.

Yeah when you hear it framed like that by a high-end player like Lilard, to me it speaks to how good the Raptors were last year overall. We load managed Kawhi sitting him out a quarter of the season, and even on the games he played you could see he was conserving himself especially on defense. And yet we still got the 2 seed.

The truth is that whole team was awesome and even though Kawhi was the best player, he wouldn't have made it without the high end play of the other guys. That team is largely still here (other than Danny), which makes me thing they'll surprise some people in a good way this year

Good dam their is alot of good teams in the west. 8-14 in the West could all be tough games on any given night. My top 7 i think are pretty much locks IMO. But i could see Dallas, NO, SA, or Sacramento getting that final playoff spot.

i've seen quite a few pundits like the bulls as a sleeper playoff or fringe playoff team. they have a young talented roster but their infrastructure is rotten and they hate their coach. teams 6 through 10 are the east fringe playoff teams this year in my mind, with the bulls stuck in the purgatory between trying to make the playoffs and the tank brigade.

the west is bonkers. i think those top 5 could finish in any order and all will be within a few games of one another.

I dunno about that. Thad young and satoransky are both really solid pick ups. And they seem to have bought into Boylen at the end of last year he expects them to play hard and if they can buy into that and put it all out on the court every night i could see a 40 win team

Well..... at least 538's computer respects us. 4th in the East this year sounds about right.

FWIW, their model had the Raps or Bucks winning it all last year and even 538's editors had a hard time believing it.

did they? i can't say i paid too much attention but their record was consistently putrid all season under both coaches.

i agree they have the talent to win 40 games but that will be up to whether boylen is willing to soften up. that coaching style has a pretty limited shelf life in this league, and usually it starts with success before players tune them out (thibs, skiles, etc). this guy started with 3 hour practices featuring suicide sprints and knuckle pushups from day 1 like he was bob knight coaching the 85 hoosiers. good luck with that in 2019.
