So...Gasol had the best +/- on the team tonight.
Everybody is way too hard on him. The guy flat out impacts winning. He obviously needs to make some of his shots, but I love having him here

    • Too many turnorvers, poor rebounding and a well below average game from Gasol killed us. It's unlikely all that all these factors will converge to happen again though. Gasol needs some hunger in his game, and the best way to get a player hungry is to cut down his minutes a bit. Start Serge who's had a great camp, preseason and start of reg season. The man is hungry and earned it.

The encouraging early sign here is that overall they've been shooting well since beginning of pre-season.

        How hungry? (sorry...couldn't resist)

I really want to see Pascal dominate these guys. It would be the perfect way to announce his arrival as a #1 option
Ding Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner folks. Spicy P breaks out the 3 ball in a big way. Is he going to average 32 points a game for the whole season? Only time will tell.

          • That damn coaches challenge made a huge difference in the game. That would have been 3 FTs for Gasol.

Hate to nitpick, but my only thing against Siakam is that he jumps when he makes some passes.
That will be cleaned up by mid-season I'm guessing. His ability to learn through experience or watching game tape or simply absorbing what the assistants tell him is through the roof. His assist to turnover ratio is the metric to watch this year. Should be a good indicator of his impact on the game.

Celtics have 30+ more shot attempts. Very difficult to win if you’re letting that happen
Nurse is going to bring this up as a point of emphasis for the Bulls game. Let's see if there is any improvement.

Tough loss. Mark will be fine for this year but should play 65 games.

My guy Bismack Biyombo in my opinion gets bought out in February, last year of his deal. Get him on the minimum to come in and rebound his ass off.
That would be interesting. Good guy in the locker room. Some familiarity with the guys. And a rebounding machine. They sure used him correctly last time around. Need him or someone like that on the team. But agree about Marc being fine. Needs some load management time as suggested.

                  • Tough game. Coulda gone either way. Went The Chowders tonight.
Some legit griping about the officiating but they too are rounding into form as the season ramps up.

Any thoughts about Kyles extension being dopey get laid to rest for a while as he looks the same as it ever was. Some really big shots went down last night to stop chowder runs.
Pascal is the real thing. As ball fans the Brown Siakam matchup is all star level good. We have the better guy.
We are going to get more from OG and Norm as the games pick up. They’re coming.
But we need more right now from ....Marc. Lots more. He looked bad last night. No quicks. No lateral movement. The floor is getting small fast for him on the low block.. Can he rectify this. Maybe on offence by making some more shots but Serge has gotta move up the depth chart now. Marc doesn’t have it to start and play 28 minutes.

There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.

Yeah Kevin Love (and Harden) has done that his whole career with impunity. Defenders would jump in his general direction to naturally contest the shot , and he would jump at the defender, sometimes totally sideways completely away from his normal shooting mechanics to deliberately bump the defender and get the call.

Now it seems that once they have the chance to actually look at this age-old gimmick from the offensive player in slow-mo, they suddenly realize it shouldn't really be a call. Problem is they forgot to the tell players that, so they once again get shafted in tight game situations because there's no consistency in the whistle.

Don't know if would have changed the outcome of the game, but it might have given some spark/confidence to Gasol, who was in desperate need of buckets.

They changed the interpretation of that rule a couple years ago. Theoretically, offensive players aren’t supposed to get away with that anymore.

                        • Rebounds and turnovers. Raptors out played the Celtics but they couldn't grab boards, and gave away chances every other trip down the floor (especially in the 4th). Refs were calling a lot of offensive fouls which was ridiculous. The one on Pascal in the first was beyond ridiculous.

Nurse needs to do a better job with his challenges. The one he challenged was obviously going to stay put.

I'm okay with the challenge system. It slows down the game but the refs screw up so many times.. it's nice that they put that in there.

Lowry and Pascal were great. We may need Pascal to get 18 boards every night. Gasol was pretty bad, but he was out there when we had that big run.. so his plus/minus look good. He's such a clumsy oaf though. Running into that Boston player for no reason. Can't grab a board to save his life. And missed on all his 3's. He's still hungover. He is not the same guy that played for Spain or for us in the playoffs, yet. Wish we had JV for the regular season, and then Marc for the playoffs.

Fred took a step back. Not sure if his legs are bothering him or if he just wasn't having it. Not as much intensity as in game 1. Maybe the way Boston plays knocked that out of him. OG was good.. just couldn't stay out of foul trouble. Serge had 3 blocks.. he even hit a 3. He's been good. Just too many turnovers. Norm was invisible. TD wasn't as impactful as in game 1. Stanley was actually alright. Was good defensively. Hit a 3. But he did screw up a couple of times as well (bad fouls, 1 turnover). Wish Matt got a look, and hopefully Nurse gives him a chance against Chicago tonight.

I thought so. Problem is old school players still do it, and old school refs still call it (unless there's a review), so now you get half the refs calling one way, and half the other way, so if you're the player (shooter or defender) I guess you just have to hope the ref is in agreement with you that day, which is a shitty way to play. It's like the Harden "scissor kick" on the shot, no one really knows how to officiate that consistenly.

Yeah, for sure. You aren't winning games giving up 20+ OREBs and making 20+ turnovers. Normally, you get blown out, if that's a silver lining. Or, the Celtics really suck on offense this year.

Tough to win when opponent has 30 more FGA's as a result of above. Similar issues last year. Serge should start tonight. Give Beer Papi a rest...
